About this property

Tent Lodge is a real luxury Lakeland property located on the shores of Coniston Water. This really is one of the Lake District’s hidden gems that must be visited to experience its magical atmosphere. A characterful property steeped in history and has welcomed many famous guests including Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome.

The front door opens into an oval entrance hall and be greeted by the elegant Georgian staircase which sweeps its way up to the first floor. From this hallway you will find the expansive sitting room, flooded with light from the vast window which frames the spectacular lake view, and a large feature open fire. The dining room, again with large windows providing guests with unparalleled views, boasts a grand dining table and another open fire. A sofa and armchairs are placed around the room to make this a real social space for guests to enjoy. The well-equipped kitchen has a more traditional country feel with original oak beams and an Aga cooker at its heart. There is plenty of space for food prep with a large island and breakfast bar and with its electric oven and hob in addition to the Aga this is a real family kitchen ideal for coming together to rustle up delicious meals Just off the kitchen is a utility room complete with washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge freezer and lots of storage. From the main staircase landing is the beautifully decorated master bedroom. A large, serene room with a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding fells it shares the luxurious Jack and Jill shower room and large walk-in shower and a lovely, bright twin-bedded room. On the south side of the property is a second staircase leading onto a landing which accesses one of the king-size bedrooms and the lavish house bathroom with walk-in shower and luxurious double-ended bath. There is also a second doorway into the master bedroom from this landing. This magnificent property is set in beautiful grounds with large terrace and a sloping lawn leading down to the waters' edge, an idyllic spot ideal for picnics, swimming and fishing. There are also three private jetties.

Coniston is only a short drive from Ambleside and Hawkshead but it is much quieter and a peaceful spot to spend a relaxing break. The area is popular with cyclists, walkers and water-sports enthusiasts and the Boating Centre on the lake offers boat hire, boat trips around the lake are available on the Steam Yacht Gondola together with solar powered launches Launches. If you want to leave the car behind Tent Lodge is ideally placed to access Grizedale Forest, with its miles of walking and cycling trails. Brantwood, John Ruskin's Lake district home, the village and Tarn Hows are all within walking distance.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin. Nearby attractions include the award-winning village of Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country and Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing. A first class holiday location at any time of the year.

    The generous welcome gifts were a real treat. The kitchen was very well equipped and the Aga a real star for cooking & keeping the kitchen warm and cosy. The decor and was lovely and views from the house were amazing. A good week of weather - a definite bonus. Richard the owner was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
