Barn End is a cosy and well-equipped property in a picturesque village, perfect for walking and cycling. Guests appreciate the modern kitchen, clean amenities, and the convenience of a local pub. The property's charm and location make it a desirable stay for those looking to enjoy the Lake District.
Cleanliness has received mixed feedback. Some guests found the property to be very clean and well-equipped, while others noted it could benefit from a more thorough cleaning, with specific mentions of cobwebs and dust. The overall impression suggests room for improvement in this area.
The location is highly praised for its scenic village setting and proximity to local sights and walks. The convenience of having a pub nearby is frequently mentioned, although its current closure has been noted. The peacefulness at night is appreciated despite some comments on road noise.
Comfort has been a point of contention among guests. While some found the bed comfortable and the property cosy, several reviews criticise the mattress quality and suggest it needs replacing. The comfort of the sofa has also been questioned, indicating that some furnishings may need attention.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern bathroom. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as problems with the hot water and parking difficulties. The log burner is a highlight, though some guests were disappointed by the lack of materials for it.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
