On the ground floor relax by a alluring wood burning stove in the comfortable lounge, cook family meals in the kitchen and socialise around a spacious table in the dining area. Downstairs there’s a games room with X-Box 360 and Wii consoles – perfect for keeping the kids entertained. On the first floor you’ll find a king size bedroom and two bathroom facilities. Whilst the second floor contains two more bedrooms, a pretty double and good sized single. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with a welcoming feel. From the kitchen you can step outside to enjoy an enclosed rear patio and a parking permit is provided with free street parking near the cottage. Located in the centre of Ambleside, Herdwick Cottage is the perfect base to enjoy all the village has to offer including vibrant shops, traditional pubs, contemporary eateries and even two cinemas. A relaxed twenty minute walk from Herdwick Cottage will take you to the shores of Lake Windermere where beautiful boats sail daily with connections for the Lakeside Steam Railway, Aquarium of the Lakes and Lakeland Motor Museum. Herdwick Cottage is a beautiful Lakeland retreat for families and couples in the heart of Ambleside.
Ambleside is a great starting point for exploring the central Lake District, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a few minutes' drive away. Windermere, Lake Windermere and the hamlet itself have a lot to offer visitors of all ages and interests, with a wide variety of activities to choose from. At Waterhead, the parkland overlooks the lake and a little beach, while a stroll in the opposite way, following Stock Ghyll through the woods, leads to the enchanting waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.

Great location, and the cottage was lovely. It had everything that we needed. Parking pass for outside was also great. Nothing to fault about the cottage, the owners have done an excellent job and thought of anything.

This is our 5th holiday in the Lakes using Lakelovers, and our favourite cottage to date. Beautifully presented, extremely clean and in a great spot for local amenities. Thanks to the hosts for all the food & leisure recommendations listed. We will be back!
