Snaptrip says

Edna's Cottage in Ambleside is a well-regarded holiday rental with a beautiful garden and a location ideal for exploring the Langdales. Guests appreciate the updated kitchen and bathroom, the cosy range fireplace, and the convenience of walks and amenities nearby. While some guests mention issues with the front door lock and parking, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about cleanliness issues such as a dusty range and washing machine seal. The positive remarks about the property's cleanliness upon arrival suggest a high standard is typically met.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and convenience, with many guests enjoying the proximity to walks, pubs, and the river. The scenic and quiet setting, despite being near popular spots, contributes to a very positive experience.

Comfort receives a good score overall, with guests finding the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable. However, there are comments about the double bed's size and comfort, and thin curtains affecting sleep, which slightly lowers the score.

Facilities are generally well-received, especially the well-equipped kitchen. However, there are recurring issues with the front door lock, parking challenges, and a need for bathroom improvements, which suggests room for maintenance and upgrades.

There is insufficient information regarding any thoughtful gestures such as gifts provided by the owners, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category. Guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

About this property

Set back from the River Brathay, which flows through the pretty, Lake District village of Skelwith Bridge, is Ednas Cottage. This lovely, traditional, stone property occupies a honeypot location just outside Ambleside, with flag stoned floors and a range fireplace adding character to the interior. On return from a circular walk along the riverside, up to Elter Water, choose to relax in the snug sitting room, surrounded by the company of your loved ones, with the range fire roaring in the background as you catch up on some TV. You can use the well-equipped kitchen to cook up a storm for the family, and gather around the table to discuss the events from the day. Climb the staircase to find two charming bedrooms, each reflecting the style of the cottage with a thoughtful choice of décor. They are served by the family bathroom, which welcomes a lovely hot soak in the bath tub after a bracing walk, or a refreshing shower. To the outside is a pleasant seating area in the garden, where you can watch the world go by as you sip a chilled drink, and plan further adventures on the lakes and fells in the region. You can grab a spot of homemade lunch at 'Chesters By The River', a lovely tea room and gift shop just down the road, where you can dine alfresco and try a selection of treats, from wood-fired pizza and classic cakes, to salads and soups. Being in the heart of the Lake District, you have the towns and villages of Grasmere, with its gingerbread shop, Ambleside, home to William Wordsworth's Rydal Mount and Windermere, where you can enjoy boat trips, shops and many eateries to choose from. Walking and cycling come in abundance, and there is also Brockhole adventure park and the National Trust's Wray Castle. This charming retreat awaits your arrival, to a beautiful part of Cumbria.

Skelwith Bridge is located in the very heart of the Lake District at the foot of the Langdale Valley. The Skelwith Bridge Hotel and Talbot Pub, dating back to the 17th century sits in the centre of the village, while 'Chesters by the River', is a riverside tea room and gift shop offering home-made lunch and replenishing drinks. Nearby Grasmere is perhaps best known as the home of William Wordsworth, while the towns of Ambleside and Windermere offer plenty to see and do.

Being able to drink coffee in the wonderful garden and listen to the river added to the pleasure of the stay. The cottage had everything you needed for a comfortable holiday and we can see why others loved it so much. Although we didn’t need to use the range (summer) I could see just how cosy it would make the cottage in the colder months. Would definitely recommend.

The house was very clean. The bedding was good quality, but the double bed seemed small to us. The location of this cottage is fantastic; lots of walk from the door. I parked my car at the back door and did not use it for the whole week. The local bus service is great we used it to get back from our walks to Ambleside and Elterwater where we had a superb afternoon meal and pint of beer at the Brittania inn. I highly recommend .

We know the Lakes and Langdales very well. This was our 2nd stay at Edna's and this charming cottage ticks all the boxes for us. Rain or shine, enjoy the walks, beer and hearty pub food (all 3 preferably). Thank you to the owners for sharing your cottage. We hope to be back for a third time in the future.
