Guests say

Keldas is a well-regarded cottage in Ambleside, praised for its prime location and cleanliness. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the quiet, comfortable environment it provides. While some minor maintenance issues and a lack of welcome gifts are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests willing to recommend the property and return for another stay.

The cottage is consistently described as very clean, indicating high standards of cleanliness that guests appreciate.

The central location is highly praised for its convenience to shops, restaurants, and walks, despite some confusion over parking permits.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the house spacious. However, some mention that the TV placement could be improved for better visibility.

Facilities are generally good, but there are comments about the need for fridge maintenance and a suggestion for a guest book to share local tips.

While guests mention the absence of a welcome pack, it is not a guaranteed amenity. The property is still considered well-equipped and ideally situated.

About this property

Keldas, an attractive two-bedroom, Victorian terrace cottage is set in the centre of the traditional Lakeland town of Ambleside, located at the heart of the Lake District National Park. Positioned on a quiet side road just a couple of minutes away from the town centre, Keldas has been beautifully refurbished by the owners to an impeccably high standard, creating a stylish and spacious holiday home ideal for a family or two couples. Taking its name Keldas from a lesser-known but picturesque minor summit in the Ullswater Valley, this property is perfect for adventure seekers looking to be close to the excitement of the Lakes. Walk through the entrance porch to your luxurious, living/dining room with oak flooring, cleverly designed to create different mood areas. Sit on the sumptuous leather suite, admire the feature wall-mounted gas fire and look forward to snuggling up with your loved ones in the evenings to watch films on the Smart TV. Look over to your lovely dining table where you will enjoy delicious meals in this bright and contemporary space. The smart, fitted galley kitchen with granite worktops holds all the appliances you need for a self-catered stay, whilst from here you can find the ground-floor shower room boasting excellent style and flooded by overhead natural light. Relax on the lovely private patio area on summer evenings, sipping refreshing drinks and discussing what the next day will bring. When sleep calls, head upstairs to catch your night's rest in the two welcoming bedrooms, featuring a king-size and a twin, which can be made into a double, providing flexible sleeping arrangements. The main bathroom is also on this floor with a bath, shower over the bath, basin and toilet.

Right on your doorstep is a wealth of food places to choose from, so whether you fancy some traditional pub grub or a fancy meal for two, the option is all yours. Explore the town of Ambleside, by enjoying a round of White Platts Miniature Golf, testing your skills at the Ambleside Climbing Wall, and delving into the local history at the Armitt Library & Museum Centre. Make your way to Windermere and discover the fascinating exhibits at the Windermere Jetty Museum, embark on exciting outdoor adventures at Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre, and explore the area on two wheels with bike hire from Total Adventure Bike Hire. For the adventurous souls, take on the challenge of hiking Helvellyn or exploring the stunning Aira Force Waterfall. And don't forget to conquer the iconic Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, for breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The Lake District awaits your exploration from the serene cottage of Keldas.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It has been kept in very good condition with everything you need for an enjoyable stay in a great location. In fact we wanted to extend our stay but faced with a compulsory insurance and ridiculous administration fee from Lake Lovers we decided against it. That is why we have scored Lakelovers 5/10. After staying in the lake district with Heart of the Lakes for over 25 years it has put us off staying with LL again.

We thought that there would have been salt and pepper and maybe a small amount of cooking oil to get us started. We have been renting a property ourselves for 20 years and always supplied a small welcome pack for our visitors, just a couple of tea bags, couple of coffee bags and milk. Cottage is ideally situated and very clean. Would definitely recommend the cottage to our friends.

It is on a narrow street where parking is difficult. There was a permit but it wasn't clear to me that this was only for certain car parks and not for parking on the street. I got a ticket for parking outside the house with the permit in the window. Maybe I missed the details about the permit. It was a great location with everything in town a few mins walk. The amenities were good and the house was clean. It might be helpful if there was some sort of guest book for comments about restaurants/ things to do etc. We had the blandest meal we have ever had and if others had commented we might have been spared the waste of money. The 10am checkout is reasonable and fair. Overall very happy and would recommend it.
