Luke's Hoose in Ambleside offers stunning views and a central location ideal for exploring the Lake District. Guests appreciate the quiet setting, well-equipped kitchen, and the cosy atmosphere. The property's charm is noted despite some concerns over cleanliness and maintenance. The steep access and parking challenges are mentioned, but the property's appeal seems to outweigh these inconveniences.
Several guests have commented on the need for improved cleanliness, mentioning cobwebs, dust, and an uncleaned bathroom upon arrival. However, not all reviews mention cleanliness issues, indicating inconsistency in this area.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to local amenities and the town, as well as for the beautiful views it offers. The steep hill and parking difficulties are noted, but the central location and quietness are well-regarded.
Guests find the house comfortable, with special mentions of the garden furniture and the views enhancing the experience. However, there are comments about uncomfortable mattresses and a desire for more comfortable sofas.
The property is appreciated for its well-fitted kitchen and decent shower. Some guests suggest improvements in Wi-Fi, TV, and the provision of cooking condiments. Issues with waste management and a broken clothes horse indicate room for improvement in maintenance.
There is no mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the host in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.
The elevated aspect of this chic Lakeland cottage provides breathtaking views of the Lake District mountains from almost every room. Sitting in a peaceful conservation area, just a minute's stroll from Ambleside village centre, Luke's Hoose offers a perfect combination of traditional charm and contemporary indulgence. It's a perfect living space for two couples, or a family, to wind down and relax at any time of year. Have fun together, dine together, sit out on the patio and drink in the views or head off to see the many delights of Ambleside village and the shores of Lake Windermere.
A short climb leads to this small terrace of stylish cottages. The entrance hall leads to the open plan kitchen / dining area, with a large bay window and there’s a wall-mounted TV - a great place to socialise. Upstairs to the first floor living room with beautiful bay window views and cosy open fire. On this level is a single bedroom and separate shower room. Upstairs to the second floor and a double bedroom, a king size bedroom with magnificent views and en suite bathroom with a shower over the bath.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Worked well with a young family and would recommend coming back. Dropped off luggage easily and long stay parking wasnât too far away.

Given the location ,which is great for the views, you really need the permit as the unloading for a family of 5 plus infant was torture. House not as clean as should be and sheets were clean but stained. The clothes horse was broken so we had to cobble it together ( dont agree with tumble dryer - heavy heavy on power). the house is lovely but not suitable for babies or dogs as the garden is a gravel area an not secure.

Beautiful situation. There were some excellent facilities in the kitchen but possibly other things in the house could have been improved. the clothes maiden was not very stable. Drying towels in the bathrooms inefficient. Hard to navigate using the tumble dryer ,even with the instructions. Did not think the property was that pet friendly outside due to no enclosed areas. However loved the selection of Walking /climbing books which both my husband and I enjoyed reading. wish there had been a visitors book to record some more of our positive comment
