Snaptrip says

Merewood Lodge is a property with a convenient location and a layout that is appreciated by guests. The upstairs lounge and kitchen offer pleasant views and the proximity to local attractions is a plus. While some guests have had positive experiences, noting the property as clean and well-equipped, others have reported concerns with dampness, maintenance, and cleanliness that impacted their stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness has been a significant concern among guests, with multiple reports of dirt, hair, mould, and musty smells. Some guests found the property clean on arrival, but the prevalence of negative comments suggests that cleanliness is inconsistent and often below expectations.

The location of Merewood Lodge is highly praised, being conveniently situated between Windermere and Ambleside, with easy access to public transport and local attractions. The setting is described as quiet, leafy, and ideal for exploring the Lake District.

Comfort receives mixed reviews; some guests found the property spacious and the beds comfortable, while others reported uncomfortable beds, dampness affecting the bedding, and noise from the boiler and bathroom extractors disturbing sleep.

Facilities and maintenance issues are frequently mentioned, including outdated decor, the need for updates in the bathrooms, and inadequate kitchen equipment for the number of guests. Positive remarks about the kitchen being well-equipped are overshadowed by the more numerous maintenance concerns.

While there is a mention of a complimentary bottle of Prosecco provided as an apology for an issue, there are not enough references to gifts or thoughtful touches to accurately assess this category. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such gestures are a standard practice.

About this property

This welcoming Lakeland retreat, just a five minute stroll from Lake Windermere, blends the best of contemporary living with timeless elegance. Each and every room has been tastefully furnished with an eye for supreme comfort as well as style. Luxurious wall-to-wall carpets in the sitting room and bedrooms, deep-cushioned leather sofas and stunning bathrooms.

Merewood Lodge, once a coach house and stables to the 1st Earl of Lonsdale, has been painstakingly converted into a luxury holiday home in an utterly glorious setting. One of a select group of cottages, this is the perfect base for exploring the Lake District.

The entrance hall is a good size, ideal for storing walking boots and outdoor clothing. Bedrooms are also on the ground floor, allowing the best views to be enjoyed from the shared living space on the first floor. All three bedrooms are equally fabulous with top notch bed linen and furnishings. One of the two king size rooms comes with an en-suite shower room, while the second king size and a twin share the house bathroom with both bath and shower facilities.

An enormous kitchen is superbly equipped, with a casual dining table perfect for early morning chats over coffee. The sitting/dining room is breath-taking. Light and airy, with access to a balcony that overlooks the beautifully maintained shared cottage garden. Once again, the décor is faultless and the luxury sofas just far too tempting.

The property is just a few minutes from the National Park Visitor Centre at Brockhole, with the nearby village of Windermere being the perfect place to stock up on flowers, groceries, wine and local ales. The quirky village of Ambleside is always a popular destination with its award winning restaurants, independent cinemas and interesting boutiques. With all this on the doorstep, Merewood Lodge is somewhere guests will want to return to time after time.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

What let’s it down is the listing itself and what’s actually available! Ignore the summerhouse as it’s not part of the accommodation (even though it has 4 pictures showing it which makes no sense. The lawned area it shows is no use either and the patio area (no bbqs allowed) you have is the area for parking so again not much use as no views and doesn’t get much sunlight! The listing is pretty much false advertising and I wouldn’t have stayed here for my wifes 40th as there’s nothing to do!

Arrived with my wife and 3kids to the place being surrounded by ladders and decorators. Place stunk of gloss for 2-3 days and kids found it hard to be in their bedroom. Sat in the living room whilst a painter painted. Was told I was notified of this 2 days prior..I wasn't! Paid for this holiday months in advance and it ruined our break. We were offered £25 compensation which was insulting. Definitely won't be back!!

Excellent location, quiet and leafy but only a couple of minutes to bus stop with regular services to busy Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside etc. Fabulous that we didn’t need to use the car during our 3 day stay. Excellent, clean, well maintained facilities. As expected with a holiday rental, a couple of scuffs on the paintwork but absolutely nothing to be bothered about. Only one gripe re maintenance, relating to cutlery and glasses. 4 dinner forks for six people(lots of sweet forks??) and some glasses were chipped on bases and rims, presumably from dish washer. Otherwise 5 star across the board. Would return and happily recommend to others.
