The location is highly praised for its proximity to Ambleside and local amenities, with guests enjoying the easy access to walks and attractions. The steep climb to the apartment may be challenging for some, but overall, the location is considered excellent.

Guests consistently mention the comfort of the beds and the cosy living space. However, some noted the lack of space in bedrooms and issues with the bathroom facilities. Despite these points, the overall comfort level is regarded as high.

Maintenance issues have been raised, suggesting a need for attention to detail.

There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. While some guests mentioned a lack of welcome packs and cleaning products, there is no consistent mention of gifts or extra touches that would indicate the level of thoughtfulness provided by the host.

About this property

Over Ghyll is the perfect property for your holiday in the Lake District. Close to the busy hub of Ambleside with its fantastic choice of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, and its collection of individ-ual and specialist shops. You will find plenty to do here when you aren’t busy exploring further afield. Visit Rothay Park for a pleasant river walk or take part in a game of bowls, play tennis or cra-zy golf at White Platts Recreation Grounds. Watch one of the wide range of films being shown at the independent cinema nearby. Park up in your private space, climb the stairs to your lovely first floor apartment, take in the fan-tastic view of Stock Ghyll Beck below. Then head out on foot to enjoy a walk to the spectacular waterfalls of Stock Ghyll Force. A trip in spring will reveal a carpet of daffodils on its banks. Explore further onto the nearby fells of Wansfell, Todd Cragg or Loughrigg. If you are a gardening enthusi-ast, why not walk to Stagshaw Gardens and from there amble up Jenkins Crag to admire the lovely lake views. Originally part of a bobbin mill, you will reach your apartment from a shared internal staircase. Your outdoor wear can be stored conveniently in your entrance hall, which leads you into a delightful sitting room with dining area. Catch the morning sun as you enjoy your breakfast, and then relax later with your choice from the entertainment systems available. A contemporary style kitchen awaits you, bringing inside the colours of the Lakeland landscape reflected in the use of local green slate worktops. At the end of the day, unwind in one of the two comfortable bedrooms with good storage space and cosy fitted carpets. Your bathroom is stylish and inviting after a day exploring the outdoors.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The parking space was a great asset. The only downside was that no cleaning products were provided. There was only one toilet roll and a tea towel. Only a tiny cleaning pack with 3 dishwasher tablets. We regularly stay in self catering accommodations and usually the basics are left for guests. So we couldn't really clean anything, luckily I take an emergency box of things and for the first time we used everything. If guests were to come from overseas then they would have to shop for everything. It would be good if some basics were left for guests if needed. We would stay in the property again but would remember to bring more with us.

Good furnishings, excellent beds, a real home from home. Good location. Good to have allocated parking. Marked it down a point as management by owner was disappointing. First time ever, and we self cater a lot, the welcome pack consisted of cleaning products and not a pint of milk, a welcome biscuit or edible product. Always a nice touch, even though we are self catering. No Fairy liquid or soaps. Manual very poor. No instructions what to do with rubbish, a fellow resident explained bin store to me. Heavy rain one day, chose a couple of DVDs (lovely collection) but DVD player not working. Contacted owner on number given. No reply.

Great for walking into town and good walking in the area. Would definitely go again.
