About this property

Yamthwaite is a stylishly-presented cottage nestled in the stunning hamlet of Grizedale near Hawkshead, Cumbria. Surrounded by forest trails, glistening lakes and serene countryside this is a perfect hideaway for families and couples seeking a quiet escape. This property has been tastefully furnished and decorated with modern features including the OSB flooring and touches handmade by the owner. You'll be sure to enjoy your time of relaxation in style. Cosy up by the woodburning stove with a good book and a hot beverage during colder months or when it's warm, throw up the windows to let in the fresh air and take a well-deserved nap on the plush sofa. While your other half or your family member prepares a delicious meal for you to enjoy, sit out on the front terrace and take in the views of the beautiful wildlife garden and pond. Dine around the dining table or alfresco in the rear garden. In the evening, unwind with a hot shower and retreat to one of two nicely-presented bedrooms. In the breathtaking hamlet of Grizedale, nature lovers will love hiking and mountain biking on the countless trails and marveling at the views. After a day spent walking or biking through Grizedale Forest, head to The Eagles Head for a lovely pub dinner. Further afield is Haverthwaite where you can journey along the lake at Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, see the marine life at Lakes Aquarium and treat yourselves to a meal at Anglers Arms. Take the scenic route to Windermere where you can swim in the lake during warmer weather, take a boat trip at Windermere Jetty Museum and take the kids for a fun afternoon at the World of Beatrix Potter. With so much to see and do, Yamthwaite is an ideal base for a trip to Cumbria.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year. A short distance beyond Hawkshead and towards the Windermere Ferry is the village of Near Sawrey, and “Hill Top” (now owned and run by the National Trust), home of Beatrix Potter which features many of the illustrations in her books. Newby Bridge and Lakeside are a short distance to the south and offer attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes, Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside plus the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Haverthwaite Motor Museum. Lake windermere offers ample watersports facilities, boat tours, and there are a great many walks throughout the Lake District National Park, including those at Scafell Pike and The Old Man of Coniston, and there are many opportunities for birdwatching, mountain biking, and wild swimming.

Would highly recommend! One suggestion would be to leave instruction manuals for tv and cooker.

Cottage was super clean, very comfortable and has all the mod cons. Very quietly situated down a private road with the forest on your doorstep. Lots of walks straight from the house. Would not hesitate in booking here again.

Yamthwaite was very much a home from home for the two of us and the dog for our short break, and was very well equipped throughout. It's clear the owner wants people to feel relaxed there, and they absolutely achieved this. The weather wasn't too kind to us on our visit, but we hope to return at some point in the not too distant future to sit in the garden with a glass of wine listening to a wonderful silence punctuated only by bird song.
