Guests say

Tanna Hill is a well-loved cottage with breathtaking views and a prime location in Bowness-On-Windermere. Guests consistently praise its spaciousness, comfort, and well-equipped kitchen. The property's hilltop position offers stunning lake vistas, particularly from the balcony, though the steep access may challenge some. Cleanliness is generally high, with a few isolated concerns. The property's charm and amenities, including a fireplace and ample parking, contribute to its appeal, making it a favoured choice for return visits.

Cleanliness is highly regarded, with many guests finding the property immaculate. However, a few reviews mention specific issues such as a dirty BBQ and kitchen cleanliness, slightly lowering the score.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views and proximity to Bowness, despite the steep uphill walk. The scenic surroundings and easy access to local attractions contribute to a high score.

Comfort is frequently commended, with guests appreciating the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and cosy atmosphere. The property's warmth and welcoming feel contribute to a high comfort level.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living spaces. Some maintenance issues, such as unreliable Wi-Fi and lighting, slightly impact the score.

While some guests mention receiving a gift as an apology for issues encountered, there are not enough references to consistent thoughtful gestures or amenities to accurately score this category.

About this property

A spacious and bright property close to the lake shore and centre of lively Bowness village. With three double bedrooms (one which can be converted into a twin room), Tanna Hill makes an ideal holiday home for a group of friends or family. And don’t forget that two pets can come along too. The sloping drive and outside area has parking for up to three cars.

The upside-down layout makes the most of stunning views, as do the balcony and raised patio with BBQ and ample outdoor seating. Who can resist the joy of al-fresco dining in the summer sunshine? Thanks to large windows facing out over the wonderful scenery, the sitting room is light and airy. A feature fireplace, with gas fire, adds a cosy charm when the sun goes down, as do the lovely leather sofas and chairs. When the sun is high, sliding patio doors can be opened wide onto the balcony from where the well-tended garden can be admired. The underfloor heating is a real treat during cooler months and the modern kitchen offers extensive cooking facilities as well as more of those fabulous views. This room has an elegant dining area with table and chairs positioned next to a large glass window. The bedrooms offer flexible sleeping arrangements, either as three king size/doubles or two king size/double and a twin. There are also generous bathing facilities for everyone.

Bowness is a wonderful location for families, lake-lovers, boating enthusiasts and those who just want to take life easy. The village is alive with interesting shops, excellent restaurants and cosy pubs. Lake Windermere is only a short stroll from Tanna Hill, and here a whole host of activities are on offer.

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and “Go-Ape” adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.

On arrival we discovered Tree Tops the house next door was being completely renovated. This work had obviously been in progress for a number of months. The weekend was quiet but on Monday morning we were awakened by the sound of mechanical diggers in the garden of Tree Tops. The noise was also compounded by someone using a pneumatic drill to break up the patio in house immediately in front. It was like living on a building site. Sykes contacted the owner who made a take or leave it offer of a discount for the major inconvenience. The owner declined to release funds to allow rehousing for the remainder of the holiday. We made the best of the situation but left a day early. We feel that we should been made aware of issues prior to arrival and given the opportunity to rebook elsewhere. Sykes and their sister company Lake Lovers stated that they had no knowledge of the ongoing building work.

House was great. Very spacious for 6 of us. 3 bathrooms was a big bonus! Very well equipped kitchen. Views from kitchen and front balcony were incredible! Decor and furniture etc was quite dated so in my opinion it could do with a bit of a refurb. However everything had been well maintained and still in good condition. Outside area was stunning, although the side patio area was in need of a little tlc. We would definitely recommend and will 100% be booking another stay here.

Would not think twice about re booking if we holiday in the Lakes in the future.
