About this property

Named after one of Beatrix Potter’s lesser-known works this fabulous, single-storey, mid-terraced cottage is set in an elevated position in the grounds of the former Priory Hotel and is within walking distance of Windermere town, with its wide selection of bars and restaurants. With lake views, private parking, shared grounds and exclusive lake access for residents, Ginger & Pickles is the perfect base for a couple wanting to explore this beautiful area. Make yourself at home in the contemporary, open-plan living area which features a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining table for two with views of the lake, and a comfortable lounge area where you can unwind in front of the smart TV after a long day. The bistro table in front of the cottage is the perfect spot to relax with a chilled glass of wine as the sun sets over Windermere. When it's time to slumber, you'll discover a smart king-sized bedroom with storage, en-suite shower room and a window through which you may, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of one of the local roe deer in the undergrowth. From the cottage a private track takes you to the beach area and jetty. Here you can sit and watch the swans and steamers go by or take to the water if you have a paddleboard or canoe light enough to carry the 400 metres down to the lakeshore. There are some lovely walks direct from the cottage door, particularly notable is Orrest Head which commands superb views over the lake and surrounding fells. For keen hikers there is a wide selection of classic Lakeland fell walks within very easy reach by car, including the Langdale Pikes, Helm Crag, the Fairfield Horseshoe and Scafell Pike. There are many popular attractions in the local area such as Lake Cruises, The World of Beatrix Potter, Dove Cottage (the Lakeland home of William Wordsworth) and numerous National Trust properties including Wray Castle, Townend and Hill Top. Whether you’re after a romantic retreat or a base for action and adventure Ginger & Pickles will not disappoint.

Bowness and Windermere are vibrant, fun-filled Lake District towns. Both towns offer a variety of amenities, shops, and restaurants, but Ambleside offers a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium, and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park offers many walks, mountain biking, and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region has many National Trust properties and water sports for thrill-seekers. Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick, and the Lakeland Mountains are all easily accessible.

The cottage had everything we needed, was warm and comfortable with a lovely view of Windermere beyond the trees in the grounds. We made full use of the excellent regular bus service which runs from Bowness to Grasmere every 20 minutes. The bus stop is about 250 yds from the cottage so much easier than trying to find a parking space in nearby villages. The steep slope from the car park to the cottage and up to the road could be a problem to those with mobility problems but they are only short slopes.

    We certainly plan to return.

Clean, warm and comfortable. We would make 2 small points. Firstly, a small step stool would be useful for shorter people to reach items on the top shelves of the cupboards (my wife is only 4ft 11 inches). Secondly, as the hob is an induction hob it might be useful to state that people with pacemakers must not go near it. As said, we thought that the property was in a nice position with a view of Windermere. Very pleasant and convenient to visit the whole area.
