Snaptrip says

Tizzie Whizie Cottage in Windermere is praised for its excellent location and cleanliness, offering a cosy and comfortable stay. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and the thoughtful touches from the owners. While some find the space snug, especially in bedrooms, and the basement shower a bit inconvenient, the charm and convenience of the cottage make it a recommended base for exploring the Lake District.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently note the cottage's cleanliness, with only one mention of a minor oversight. The property is generally very clean throughout.

The location is highly praised for being central, quiet, and close to amenities, making it an ideal spot for exploring Windermere and the Lake District.

The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, though some guests find the beds too soft and the bedrooms a bit tight. The steep stairs could pose a challenge for those with mobility issues.

Facilities are generally good and well-equipped, but there are comments about maintenance issues like doors not closing easily, a shower in need of repair, and suggestions for improvements.

Guests welcomed the early check-in and thoughtful gifts upon arrival, such as a bottle of wine and essentials. However, as gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed, they are a delightful bonus rather than an expectation.

About this property

Arrive at this traditional Lake District cottage, right at the heart of Windermere village, and you'll be surprised by the sophistication within. Spread over three floors, Tizzie Whizie Cottage is decadent yet relaxed; finished with natural colours, plumped up with leather furnishings and oozing Lakeland cottage charm. Two cottage bedrooms, each with a bathroom facility and one complete with roll top bath, perfect for a long soak after a day on the fells - this central cottage serves as a romantic retreat and its intriguing name is allegedly given originally by local Windermere boatmen to a waterside legend which was seen to reside on Belle Isle. This is a vibrant, convenient bolt hole, surrounded by sophisticated village facilities and well-placed for exploring our Lake District National Park.

Permit parking is available outside the cottage and on neighbouring streets. Entrance hallway leading into the light and cosy lounge which has an opening into the dining kitchen. This kitchen has everything you need and with a door to the patio, ideal for summer evenings. Upstairs to the two cottage bedrooms, one double and one twin and on this level is the bathroom with roll top bath and shower attachment and on the lower ground level is the shower room.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

However if you want a shower you have to go from your bedroom down two flights of stairs into the basement. Its damp and fusty in the basement and there is a dehumidifier working overload. The shower and toilet room is rather cramped. Kitchen was nice enough and had everything you need. 'The living room is alright but nothing reclines but that's fine if you want to sit bolt upright after a long day on the fells. Advertised is a wi game - it doesn't work so why advertise it. The TV is old so your not going to have much variety on what you watch. Parking can be a bit tricky and you might find yourselves walking a long way from whichever street you can find to park on. The upstairs bathroom had a faulty toilet cistern - there was an instruction note to advise us it was faulty placed on top of the cistern telling us we need to position the flush handle just so after flushing - otherwise the cistern would constantly be filling and discharging via the overflow all night. We manged this fine, but the real disappointment was the fact that the owner then put a claim in after we left to replace the their faulty/damaged toilet !!!! They said we had damaged it. Furthermore, Sykes cottages endorsed their claim £200!!! We have used sykes cottages before. Never again - check out their reviews its alarming. Sykes cottages work on a basis of don't call us you'll never get through to us.
