Wansfell Retreat Lodge in Windermere is highly praised for its stunning views, tranquil setting, and modern, well-maintained interiors. Guests enjoy the lodge's prime location for exploring the Lake District, with easy access to local attractions and walks. The property is dog-friendly, offering a comfortable stay for families and their pets. The on-site pub and children's play area add to the convenience and enjoyment of the stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The lodge is consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with guests noting the immaculate condition of the furniture and cutlery. One minor comment about cleanliness under the sofas and the cooker suggests room for improvement, but overall, the high standards are evident.

The location is universally acclaimed for its beautiful views and proximity to local attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring the Lake District. The elevated position provides privacy and easy access to walks, with Windermere and Ambleside being easily accessible.

Guests find the lodge cosy, warm, and comfortable, with plenty of space for groups. Some guests noted that additional seating could enhance the comfort for larger parties, but the beds and overall accommodation are highly regarded.

The lodge is well-equipped with modern facilities, though there are some minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as a gate hinge and a cracked door step. The park's facilities, including the pub and play area, are appreciated, but the restriction on river paddling is a noted drawback.

While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, a score cannot be provided in this category.

About this property

Wansfell Retreat is a beautiful, high specification lodge at Limefitt Park, enjoying impressive uninterrupted views across the valley to the fells and sleeps six guests plus an infant in a travel cot. There is a spacious deck from which to relax and unwind after a day exploring the local villages and attractions. The perfect place to enjoy a welcome break from everyday life and just kick back and drink in those views, perhaps with your morning coffee or evening sundowner. Your lodge is located in one of the loveliest parks in the area – surrounded by the Troutbeck Valley, with beautiful fells and views all around. Only four miles from Windermere village, a bustling vibrant centre with shops, pubs and cafes; or a mile further on to the cosmopolitan Bowness with steam cruises, restaurants and shops. Back at Limefitt, you have two great local pubs in walking distance, there’s a dog-friendly pub and small shop on site, children’s playground and nearby you can enjoy pony-trekking with a third party provider too. You can literally walk from your front door up on the pathways above to the Garburn Pass and onto High Street. Or if you fancy a potter around lovely quiet lanes there is plenty to choose from. On the other side of the valley is Wansfell Pike and over to Ambleside. Driving to Ambleside is around four miles, and Glenridding the village on the shores of Ullswater is ten miles away. A wonderful place to make special memories with your loved ones

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

We've stayed at five separate lodges on Limefitt over the years and are therefore very familiar with the park and its facilities. The lodge itself is, modern, light and in the most part well maintained. There are a couple of areas that could be improved (the gate was partly hanging off its hinges and the UPVC door step was cracked but nothing major). One thing I would point out is that the 3rd bedroom is smaller than we've come to expect in a lodge this size. Its absolutely fine for small children but is a bit of a squeeze for adults. Likewise with the living room area, this is great for two adults and up to four children but at one point in our holiday we had four adults and two children staying in the lodge and it was a bit on the small size. Not a show-stopper by any means but something to be aware of for larger parties. The kitchen is modern and well equipped but is a little bit limited on storage space if you're bringing lots of food with you. The sink is very slow to drain, however this was also the case with the showers so may be a general issue with the site rather than the lodge itself. The decking area is superb with plenty of comfy seating and fantastic views out over Wansfell. Limefitt Park is immaculate and in a wonderful location with superb walks available direct from the site. Its a great base for exploring all the Lakes has to offer. One negative that it is worth noting is that paddling and swimming in the river is no longer allowed. I wasn't able to find out why this is the case but is a real shame as my children have always loved doing this. All in all, I would definitely recommend Wansfell Retreat and Limefitt Park but just bear in mind it may be a bit on the small side for larger parties.

This meant that we knew that the quality of our stay was going to be first class. Everything we needed was there. The accommodation suited the five of us and the fact that there were 2 bathrooms ensured our comfort. There was so much to do in the surrounding area. We did quad biking at Rookin farm as well as archery, axe throwing and zip lining at Brock hole. We spent time in Grassmere and Windermere as well as Ambleside - everything close by. We used the pub on site for meals and entertainment which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only slight priblem we had was with the drainage - the kitchen sink taking a long time to empty and the shower tray filling up when in use. This could have been due to the vast amount of rain we encountered at times which might have affected the drainage. All in all, we had a great time and much of this was down to the top quality of the accommodation and the superb Sykes organisation. Thank you
