Set in a large south facing paddock backed by woodland, this sympathetically restored carriage and adjoining guard's van offers a very unique holiday experience. If you are of a romantic disposition, or a railway buff who mourns the loss of the country railways to Dr Beeching and his axe, this is the ideal holiday destination for you. Converted into comfortable accommodation, you may well imagine you are steaming along. Just sit back, relax and let time stand very still and enjoy the blissful peace of this scenic rural location. A warm and cosy spot for two, the carriage has original flooring and brass fittings, a late Victorian walnut double bed and Tiffany style lamps. A compact fitted kitchen sits at the front end of the carriage, and the bedroom and en-suite shower room are reached at the far end in the guard's van, with the living space running in between.
This is a lovely area for both cycling and walking, with or without your dog. A public footpath runs adjacent to the paddock, parts of which follow the old railway line. The beautiful beaches, marshes and villages that are dotted along the North Norfolk coastline are a mere twenty minute drive away.
The Signal Box, which resides nearby, and sleeps two guests, can also be booked if your friends wish to come along as well. The owners are very happy if you would like to bring your horse, which can be kept in the large paddock that surrounds The Railway Carriage (please see Additional Information).

Great accommodation - very comfortable and had everything we needed. Paddock was great for the dogs, and location is very quiet and great for getting straight out into the country for walks.
Mr S
The carriage is a tranquil getaway, clean and comfortable, a great base to visit local towns and beaches, highly recommended.

To be honest, I only had modest expectations as this was a late booking and there were only few properties available in the area. However, both my wife and I were stunned by the quality and comfort of this property. Despite going here in the late autumn, the railway carriage was really cosy and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Great wi-fi with a Smart TV meant we could watch all our favourite shows on Amazon, Netflix, NowTV etc. The carriage is in a very peaceful setting within an enclosed large paddock; so very dog friendly. I highly recommend that you go to The Sidings bakery in Melton Constable for breakfast pastries that you can enjoy in the paddock with a cup of tea. It is just a short drive to the Jurassic coast for fossil hunting. We have no hesitation in recommending this property; it is amazing.
