About this property

Approached via a quiet and narrow Norfolk country road, positioned just a few metres down Blacksmiths Lane in the village of Happisburgh, is Hitchens Cottage. This East Anglian getaway, with its own courtyard, offers a wonderful barn conversion, formerly the stables to the lifeboat horses. This block of cottages has been divided into four, each named after the internationally acclaimed artists; Ivon Hitchens, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, who used to holiday and draw inspiration from the area. The cottage retains much of its history hidden in between the brickwork and exposed beams, adding bundles of character to a well-appointed setup. On entrance, you come to a hallway, which displays pictures of said artists proudly on the wall, giving you a sense of nostalgia. This leads to the first double bedroom on the left and a twin straight ahead. They each have ample storage space, making your stay as comfortable as possible. Gather with your family and friends and feast on a home cooked meal at the dining table, or curl up on the l-shape sofa, making the most of the open-plan layout. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher and washing machine for your convenience. Just off from here you can indulge in a hot soak in the family bathroom or freshen up under the shower after a day exploring the wider region. The front garden offers a lovely picnic area, where you can enjoy a delicious meal rustled up on the barbecue, followed by a tasty bottle of wine. It is fully enclosed and has a small patch of lawn to sit on if you prefer, as well as lockable bike storage. This location is perfect for walking into the village centre. Grab your comfy shoes and stroll down to the beach, taking in the familiar sights along the way. There are footpaths each way you turn, the main one being just across the road from the property. There is a Post Office and shop and a traditional coaching inn. The lighthouse is a beautiful sight on the headland, which you can visit on public open days and climb its steps to the lantern. St. Mary's Church also has a tower, with public open days and views across the deep blue waters of the North Sea. Happisburgh is within a 15-minute drive of the market towns of North Walsham and Stalham with easy access to the Norfolk Broads, the historic city of Norwich and many other tourist attractions. The ideal location for a family holiday by the coast.

This village is located in the English county of Norfolk. Its lighthouse is the oldest working light in the area, dating back to 1790. You can visit this structure during public open days and climb the 112 steps up to the lantern. Another notable building is St. Mary's Church, a 15th century landmark, also with set open days, where you can enjoy views of the sea from the top of the tower. Winterton-on-Sea is within easy reach by car and further afield is the city of Norwich with its two cathedrals, whilst the seaside resort of Great Yarmouth offers one of Britain’s largest open air markets.

The cottage has everything you need, is clean and spacious and is set in a peaceful rural setting. Neighbours are super friendly and it’s a short walk to Happisburgh beach, the coastal path and the local pub. A short drive gets you to all the local amenities and beaches.
