Guests say

Whistlewood Cottage in Bamburgh is praised for its excellent location, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, the secure garden for pets, and the convenience of parking. While some maintenance issues are noted, the charm and amenities of the cottage, along with its proximity to the beach and local amenities, make it a favourite for many.

The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with specific praise for pristine beds and towels. However, some guests reported issues with dust, dead insects, and outdoor furniture cleanliness, slightly lowering the score.

The cottage's location is highly commended, being central to Bamburgh, close to the beach, and within walking distance to local attractions. The added benefit of parking space is frequently mentioned as a significant advantage.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, highlighting the cosy lounge and well-equipped kitchen. However, some guests mention the need for better quality beds and sofas, and issues with heating and hot water, which affects the comfort score.

The facilities, including a well-stocked kitchen and laundry room, are appreciated, but guests note several maintenance issues such as problematic appliances, worn furniture, and the need for updates. These concerns impact the score.

While guests mention the provision of some amenities, there is no consistent reference to thoughtful gestures such as welcome gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness, and guests should not expect such extras.

About this property

Formerly two separate cottages, Whistlewood in the heart of Bamburgh in Northumberland, offers spacious and immaculately presented accommodation, which is ideal for a family holiday. Inside, the property offers a really welcoming space with the sitting room particularly inviting. Here, you will find extensive seating arranged around a gorgeous woodburning stove set within a stunning inglenook fireplace which creates a beautiful focal point to the room and helps to take the chill off in the cooler months. The designated chef will be delighted with the large kitchen/diner which is fully fitted in a rustic style and comes complete with an Aga and Belfast sink. The carefully planned kitchen benefits from a stylish breakfast island adjoining an elegant dining area which has a dining table and chairs next to the feature windows, offering captivating views over the gardens. When it’s time for bed, make your way to one of two beautifully presented bedrooms, a double (which comes with its own TV!) with en-suite facilities, another double and a twin. Both are light and airy and offer a relaxing sanctuary of calm. The outside of the property is especially appealing with an extensive flagged terrace area, a small lawn, benches, a decking area with a table and chairs and even a covered barbecue area. This is the ideal space for spending time alfresco where children and pets can run around safely while the adults can chill out and get into the holiday vibe. Whistlewood is in the perfect location for exploring the delights of Northumberland with the appealing town of Bamburgh literally on the doorstep. As well as its famous castle, the town also has a great selection of shops, hotels, pubs and restaurants and a golf course. The Heritage Coastline boasts a stunning array of fishing villages and sandy beaches which are a must-visit. Head out for a scenic drive along the coast and see where you end up! Other places worth visiting include Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Berwick-upon-Tweed, RNLI Grace Darling Musuem, Farne Islands and Dunstanburgh Castle. If you want to get close to nature, you’ve come to the right place with Annstead Dunes Nature Reserve, Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre and Cresswell Wildlife Trust, all within a short distance. Whistlewood is the perfect setting for a family holiday to remember for a long time.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Wonderful homely cottage with good facilities and a great location. Only a 10 mins walk to the beach and a pub, restaurant and 2 hotel bars just a few minutes up the road. Lovely outdoor space for the dogs too.

The cottage is warm comfortable and facilities are good for the price. We loved the open plan kitchen dining and the space was bigger than expected. The small garden was perfect for the dog to have some space and in the summer it must be lovely. Only gripes are that the crockery is tired and chipped and should be replaced and more mugs and cutlery ( esp knives) would be helpful for families staying. But a lovely break thank you

The boiler needs servicing as the house smelt of the oil from boiler. The freezer is constantly buzzing and as it is in kitchen/dining area it is quite intrusive. The Sky box subscription needs updating. And I was very concerned about location of microwave. Bring only 5ft tall the microwave was almost above head height and very dangerous when removing hot foot. Finally maybe invest in front door mat.
