Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean and tidy, with several reviews highlighting its spotless condition upon arrival. The high level of cleanliness contributes positively to the overall experience.

The location is highly praised for its beautiful views and proximity to local attractions, including Hadrian's Wall and the town of Hexham. The scenic drives and wildlife add to the appeal, though some guests note the parking can be tight.

While the property is generally found to be cosy and welcoming, several guests mention that the sofas are too soft and lack support, which could be an issue for comfort. Beds are mostly reported as comfortable, but there are mixed opinions on their firmness.

The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, but there are some concerns about maintenance issues such as a sticking porch door and a broken cupboard. The heating and hot water issues mentioned by a guest suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate the owner's thoughtfulness in the reviews provided. Therefore, it is not possible to assess this category based on the available information.

About this property

A charming, double-fronted cottage, located in the small rural village of Catton, close to the Northumberland town of Allendale. This beautiful cottage makes an ideal base for exploring the region's many attractions such as Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Water and just over an hour away, Northumberland's beautiful Heritage Coastline. The cottage has been lovingly furnished to provide well-equipped, modern accommodation for couples or small families. Set over two floors, there is a contemporary open plan ground floor with a cosy sitting area with feature fireplace and woodburner, a sleek modern kitchen and a dining area. The first floor has two lovely bedrooms and a bathroom with both a bath and a shower. To the front of your cottage, you can take in the countryside surroundings. There is much to see and do from the village of Catton. The area surrounding your cottage is perfect for walking on the moorland, birdwatching, cycling or touring. This attractive cottage is perfectly positioned for trips to the Killhope Mine, the High and Low Force Waterfalls, historic Hexham, Hadrian's Wall and Durham city, with its magnificent cathedral. Take a trip further afield and visit Newcastle and the Metrocentre, Bowes Museum and the Beamish Open Air Museum. A pretty cottage in the perfect location for a break at any time of year.

The town of Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle to the west, Hexham to the east or the Roman Wall just to the north. There are lots of walks and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline.

Amazing view from cottage and in a good location for sightseeing with plenty to see and do in the area. We parked our car in pub car park opposite as parking space is small but this worked well. As mentioned by guests in previous reviews, the sofas and chairs were too soft and uncomfortable. The mattress in main bedroom was very hard. The owner did mention this so we took mattress topper which worked ok for us.

It is not well maintained in many ways eg being told we would need to kick the porch door to open, a cupboard was broken and therefore unusable , a loose wire protruding from one of the base units ,an unpleasant smell from both the kitchen and bathroom sinks as though the drains need cleaning. There was some mould on the seal of the fridge door . There was also no receptacle for recycling and we used the neighbours bin. No hand soap provided which is always useful on arrival before unpacking. Regarding comfort, as many previous visitors have commented, the sofas are far too low and difficult to get out of. As suggested by the owner, we used cushions from the unused sofas, which had there been four people staying , would have proved difficult. There is no chair for clothing in the bedroom and a shortage of mirrors.
