Guests say

The Power House in Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a spacious and well-equipped holiday rental that caters to large groups and families, including pets. Guests have enjoyed the property's ample space, comfortable beds, and additional features such as a hot tub, sauna, and games. The location is appreciated for its proximity to the beach and local amenities, making it a recommended choice for gatherings and celebrations.

Cleanliness has been a recurring concern among guests, with several noting the property could benefit from a more thorough cleaning regime. While some found it acceptable, others reported it as unclean or very dirty, indicating inconsistency in standards.

The location is generally praised for its proximity to the beach and local village, with guests finding it convenient for coastal walks and exploring the area. However, some noted the village appeared run down, which slightly impacted their perception.

Guests have found the beds comfortable and the property spacious, providing privacy and communal areas for gatherings. However, there were comments about some beds being creaky or uncomfortable, suggesting room for improvement in this area.

The facilities, including the hot tub, sauna, and games, are highlights for many guests. Nonetheless, reports of maintenance issues, such as broken appliances and safety concerns, suggest that while the facilities are appreciated, they require better upkeep.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness in terms of these gestures. Therefore, this score is set to null.

About this property

A wonderful conversion of a former Victorian powerhouse, 800 yards from the sandy beach in the former fishing village of Skinningrove. Restored to a very high standard, this house in Skinningrove includes a magnificent entrance hall with central ash staircase leading to a galleried landing with leaded glass dome. The Power House offers superb, light and airy accommodation, including a sitting room with feature Victorian cast iron fireplace, arched windows and sea views. Large kitchen that provides all the facilities that you will need including a glorious Yorkshire range, a real focal point of this Skinningrove cottage, and one of the dining tables incorporates a slate bed snooker table. There are two sitting rooms, both with TVs, one of which has a double sofa bed and ramped access, which may make this delightful property suitable for accompanied disabled. Six bedrooms include two with four poster beds and two with en-suite bathrooms, offering a touch of luxury as well as great flexibility over the sleeping arrangements. A family sized bedroom that sleeps four has two single beds on a mezzanine floor with a distinctive porthole giving sea views, plus there are three further bathrooms, one of which boasts a beautiful roll-top slipper bath. The historic town of Whitby and the coastal villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay are all easily reached, as is the lovely scenery of the nearby North York Moors National Park, making this a great Skinningrove holiday cottage for exploring this fabulous region, any time of the year.

This former fishing village is on the Cleveland Way, and visitors will find a collection of interesting houses and a good variety of shops and a beautiful sandy beach within its boundaries. As well as being a fishing village, Skinningrove was part of the Ironstone Mining Industry and there is a museum in the area that charts the history of this industry. Saltburn is just six miles away and has retained much of its Victorian charm, including the pier, colourful Italian Gardens and the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain, well worth a visit. Skinningrove is ideally placed as a base to explore the dramatic scenery of the moors and the many coastal towns and villages in the area, making it a great holiday base.

Having a very large and comfortable family lounge enabled us all to spend quality time together, whilst the small lounge enable 'quiet time' for us grandparents when needing a few moments to chill, as well as a play area for the little ones when needed. Family sized kitchen, having all the appliances you could think of and would need, as well as a huge dining room, incorporating a pool/snooker table for entertainment which was well used Ample bedrooms for all the families, clean, tidy and comfy beds, birthday girl and her hubby loved their double four poster, ensuite The jaquzzi was a bonus and was well used throughout our stay Mike was on hand via phone if we needed him Overall we had a lovely time, and would definately book the Powerhouse again and recommend it to any large family/group Iris, Steve & Family February 2025

Our first stay was to celebrate a 50th and this time we decided to have a late Christmas get together. There’s plenty of room (there was 16 adults) the house is gorgeous, very clean and warm. Between our stays the kitchen area has been updated which is perfect for larger number of guests. We would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back. Thank you to Mike for everything

Sixteen of us in one big house. Plenty of room for entertaining. Beds very comfortable but some a little creaky. The main bathroom which shares three bedrooms as a large bath but the shower is very poor. Hardly any water pressure.. Plenty of pots, pans and cutlery for all you need in the kitchen. The hot tub and shower room was a great added feature and the family loved it. Loads of parking space. Would I book again? definitely
