The northern beaches of the estuary leading to the River Duddon are framed by this small coastal village on the southern boundaries of the Lake District National Park. There is a drift mine recreation at Millom Museum, a tribute to the town's iron and steel industry, which is on display. A statue of 'The Scutcher,' who stopped the iron ore tubs with an iron bar and his own strength, can be found in the town's centre, honouring the town's iron-mining past. Norman Nicholson's stained glass window in St. George's Church and the 'fish' stained glass window in Holy Trinity Church are both worth a look in this town, which was also home to the author.
