The charming apartment, Greenmantle, is one of ten dwellings, situated in the middle of The Long House on the ground floor to a peaceful courtyard. The Long House was once the Greyhound Inn from which a ferry to Annan ran and is presumed to have been the template for Sir Walter Scott's Tavern in "Redgauntlet". It was by repute, the haunt of smugglers and Border reivers. The names of some of the dwellings take up this Scott connection, while others including Greenmantle, are associated with the author John Buchan. The two bedrooms and the sitting room with dining area windows look straight over the Solway Firth to Criffel Hills in Scotland. On warmer days, the breakwater on that side of the house, is a private area on which to sit right by the shingle shoreline. This would be a great time to watch the birds, study the tide and the mesmeric sea ebb and flow or to watch the spectacular sunsets in the clear sea air. The attractive seaside town of Silloth is just two miles away, and offers many amenities as well as being home to a magnificent championship golf course. Miles of unspoilt coastline afford wonderful opportunities for walking and birdwatching, while the magnificent Northern Lakes are easily accessible. Situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Greenmantle provides a special and comfortable place for a couple or small family wishing to explore this beautiful area and appreciate its fantastic seafront location.
The sleepy little coastal resort of Skinburness lies on the Solway Firth with wonderful extensive views over the sea to Dumfries and Galloway beyond. It offers inns and restaurants, and a small museum. Just down the road is Silloth with its lovely seafront parks and paved streets along with a variety of pubs, shops and cafes. This is a superb area for walking - the Cumbria Coastal Walk runs right along the coastline, providing excellent seafront trails and birdwatching opportunites.

The house was so clean and we all felt so comfortable - the house has everything you could need. Parents and 2 young children - we have had such an amazing time. Would recommend. Would come back. The children will be talking about this for a long time. Thank you

We didn't want for anything, the cottage is spacious, beds extremely comfortable, shower was hot and powerful, the sofa was also comfortable with a nice little corner for meals and a space outside for morning coffee. Would definitely recommend, if you want peace and quiet with endless views this is the place.

We were more than happy with Greenmantle. If you need to get away to relax and switch off this is the place. The beautiful surroundings give plenty opportunity for walks to blow them cob webs away. We found some lovely places to eat out but also enjoyed a takeaway. There are plenty of choices. We will definitely return at some point. A big thank you to Bev for making the stay stress free.
