Sally End is a well-received cottage, praised for its tranquility, stunning views, and wildlife. Guests appreciate the well-equipped space, cosy Aga, and thoughtful touches like slippers and toiletries. While most reviews are positive, noting the cottage's charm and the caretakers' attentiveness, a few mention minor issues with comfort and maintenance.

Reviews consistently mention the cottage's cleanliness, with guests finding it tidy and well-maintained, contributing to a welcoming and homely atmosphere.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its stunning views and peacefulness, though its remoteness requires some travel for amenities. The natural beauty and wildlife are frequently highlighted as highlights of the stay.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with the warmth of the Aga and the cosiness of the setting often mentioned. However, a few guests noted the beds could be more comfortable, slightly impacting the score.

Facilities are considered excellent, with the cottage being described as well-equipped and thoughtfully prepared. The Aga, wood burner, and secure garden for pets are appreciated, though there are isolated comments on maintenance issues like the back door and cooker.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident, with numerous mentions of extra touches like fresh flowers and toiletries. While these gifts are warmly received, it is noted that such personal touches, though likely, are not guaranteed for every stay.

In springtime hear the haunting sound of the curlew calling while flying overhead. This cottage is a walkers delight with access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while across the valley is an amazing limestone pavement to discover. A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst the Raven brook trickles by. St Oswald's church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.

Sara and Robert have thought of everything to make the holiday stay a good one. The cottage is so well stocked with all you need to make it a home from home. The room was very comfortable and we loved watching the birds feeding through the garden doors. The cottage was warmed by various radiators and an Aga, making it super cosy. The only slight downside was the hardness of the bed. I noticed this mentioned in other reviews so was prepared for it, but it wouldn’t put us off visiting again. The surrounding area was stunning and we enjoyed our pre-breakfast walks. We wanted somewhere quiet to escape fireworks noise as our dog is terrified, and Sally end gave us exactly that.

Also genuinely dog-friendly (we took two big dogs). Good location for travel to other parts of the area, but being up a hill the access could be tricky in icy weather.

  • Mary

The cottage was lovely and well looked after. Little extras like shampoos and slippers are not something I expect in a cottage. Would be fantastic in summer as the garden and view were ace. Thanks
