Guests say

Larimar is a well-received cottage in Kirkby Stephen, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the homely atmosphere. While there are minor concerns about maintenance and a smoke odour, the overall experience is positive, with many guests willing to return.

Most guests found the cottage clean and well-maintained, though there were isolated reports of dust, cobwebs, and a smoke odour. The main areas were very clean, indicating a generally high standard of cleanliness.

The cottage is ideally located for local amenities and exploring the area, with convenient parking. Its proximity to the town centre and main road is appreciated, although the nearby Auction Mart can be busy.

Guests enjoyed comfortable furnishings and a homely feel, with some reporting excellent sleep quality. However, there were complaints about a cigarette smell and a mattress needing replacement, slightly affecting the comfort score.

The property is praised for being well-equipped, with a fully equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom. Some guests mentioned hidden power points and a lack of TVs in each bedroom as described, but overall the facilities meet guests' needs.

While guests mentioned a welcome pack of biscuits and milk, there is not enough information to assess the consistency of such gestures across all stays. Therefore, it's politely noted that such gifts are not guaranteed.

It was so warm and homely. Clean, fresh and comfortable. Loved the scent in the living room! Slept really well. Also loved the jacuzzi bath and the sofas were so comfy! We stay in Kirkby Stephen every year and will definitely stay again. Although it's opposite the Auction Mart, it didn't bother us on the busy days. Great base for exploring. We will be back! Many thanks

However it was not as described in the listing at the time of booking. Described as non-smoking with a TV in each bedroom. When we arrived there was an overwhelming stench of cigarettes coming from the living room. It was so bad that we had to buy air fresheners to try and mask the smell during our stay but even they weren't good enough. Also, there was only one TV in one bedroom (The listing has been amended since we complained to Sykes.) We would have chosen a different cottage if this one had been described correctly. Minor problems which the host needs to sort with their cleaners. There was a light coating of dust on all the window sills and there were cobwebs high up in most rooms but especially bad in the bathroom where there were also three spiders. After our first showers we noticed the water wasn't draining away so we pulled the plug to find a foot long tangle of hair and grease which we removed. There was also breadcrumbs in the knife and fork drawer. The main parts of the property were very clean in every other respect. With a little more attention to the details and the removal of cigarette stench this property would be great for any family.

Firstly, the living room and main bedroom stank of cigarettes, even though it’s a no smoking property. We have just got home and the smell is still lingering on all our clothes and luggage. Secondly, I think the mattress in the main bedroom was beyond repair, as we sunk to almost the bedframe. Luckily we had the second bedroom to use instead, but this wouldn’t have been possible if we were a larger group.
