Ulverston's central street is paved with cobblestones, and the town itself has a historic feel. It has many unique stores, cafes, and pubs serving up real fires and a variety of brews. From five-star restaurants to neighbourhood pubs, there is truly something for every palate. Ulverston is also well-known as a festival town, hosting a variety of events throughout the summer (including flag and walking festivals, as well as art and music festivals, and the world-famous Dickensian Christmas festival in late November). Stan Laurel was born there, and the town holds the record for the largest foam pie fight in the world, so you can imagine it's a pretty fun place to visit. It is possible to take pleasant strolls in the scenic countryside around Morecambe Bay and the southern Lake District. Featuring the world's deepest, widest, and shortest canal, this area is perfect for a leisurely stroll in the afternoon, thanks to the nearby pub and beautiful views of the bay. It's also easy to get to any of the National Park's sights. Beaches and excellent birdwatching can both be found along the Furness Coast. Popular Birkrigg Common, which offers breathtaking views of Morecambe Bay, is also close by, as is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Lakes Windermere and Coniston.

Everything was available to us and everything we might need had been thought of. It was better than we expected and would love to return again. The grounds were exceptional too! Never stayed in an apartment before but with adult children, this is definitely the way forward for us. Thanks for having us.

We loved the gift basket, fresh linens, complementary soap & basic fridge items and we were delighted with the whole cleanliness and freshness of the apartment. The indoor and outdoor shared spaces were beautiful and we loved the addition of the outdoor games! Thank you, it was a truly beautiful visit to a grand estate.

The conversion of the building has been done with great sensitivity and care to preserve the historic ambience and architectural details of a building that expresses the values of its age. Designed to be a home, the building still has a sense of welcome and comfort. It celebrates the history of its owners and that of the area that produced the wealth to create it. The apartment was spacious and comfortable although, at 5’2” I could not reach the top shelf of any of the cupboards or the fridge! Fortunately I had a taller daughter with me who could. It was a joy to come ‘home’ at the end of each day and we had a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to keep it looking so wonderful.
