About this property

This beautiful cottage sits high on the old road between Colne and Skipton, boasting panoramic views from one of the highest hills in Pendle, with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales, Forest of Bowland and picturesque towns such as Harrogate and Ilkley.

Whether you are planning a romantic trip, or an idyllic getaway for two, this one-of-a-kind retreat is the place to be for fabulous natural scenery which can all be appreciated from the stunning wood fired hot tub, patio area and breath-taking feature windows. Access the cottage via a delightful private driveway and Shawclough Barn invites you inside to its warm and cosy open-plan living area. With a magnificent homely kitchen and a dining area looking out over the tranquil landscape, you can return here any time of day and truly relax. Tucked away into the corner of the room you will discover a woodburning stove opposite a large and comfortable sofa where you can begin those snug nights in. The same sense of luxury continues into the hallway, where you will be intrigued by the contemporary lighting reminding guests of the area’s former textile history, before taking stairs which lead up to your own fashionable night-time haven.

The super king-size bedroom has been uniquely styled under A-framed beams, and features a freestanding roll-top bath to relax in, resting beneath Velux windows. Adjacent there is an absolutely stunning separate wet-room with wood-effect tiling, walk-in “rain shower”, twin basins and WC.

Whether you are settling down after a sightseeing adventure, or waking up to the scenery, you will feel right at home. Laneshaw Bridge is perfect for walkers and cyclists, with no shortage of walking and cycling opportunities, including the Pennine Way and Bronte Way close by, and many footpaths available straight from the cottage. To unwind on a nice afternoon, Black Lane Ends Tavern is close by, a well-known pub sitting on top of the moors with stunning views and a cosy charm. There’s loads to do on your doorstep:

The pretty hamlet of Wycoller, most famous for its Bronte connection, lies close by. Today Wycoller Hall stands in ruins but this 16th century hall is believed to have been the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte Bronte’s novel, ‘Jane Eyre'. Spend a day exploring the “Panopticans”: four large scale sculptures, all within 20 miles of the cottage, constructed as symbols of the renaissance of the area. Take a day boat, walk or cycle ride along the Leeds Liverpool canal. Explore the circular Pendle Way over Pendle Hill taking in waterfalls, moors and the famous lairs of the Pendle Witches.

Book a shooting experience at Kelbrook Shooting School or a Land Rover experience at Broughton Hall just outside Skipton. Further afield explore Skipton Castle, Bolton Abbey, Ilkely Moor, Malham Tarn, Grassington, Settle and the Yorkshire three Peaks

Skipton and Colne are the two closest towns both offering an exceptional variety of independent shops and lots of eateries to choose from. There's the large retail outlet of Boundary Mills, just four miles away in Colne, a must for lovers of shopping. Nearby Skipton, known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' is a lovely old market town with much to interest the enthusiastic visitor, boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2014 the area hosted the first leg of the Tour De France, bringing in many visitors from far and wide to this wonderful area.

The village is home to Black Lane Ends Tavern, and a variety of pleasant walks. Colne features not one, but three theatres, including Colne Muni, Colne Little Theatre and Pendle Hippodrome. This Britain in Bloom town is the land of independent stores that are perfect for gifts. Adding to this is the impressive Boundary Mill Stores, one of the North’s biggest stores of its type, and you’re in shopping heaven.

The location and views are amazing with lots of wildlife around. The cottage is equipped to the highest standard with everything you could possibly need, the bed is super comfortable with a really lovely large bath crying out to be enjoyed. The hot tub is easy to use and enjoy. The owners are right next door if you need anything, but you are left to yourself to enjoy your break. Local pubs are really good and highly recommended. Thank you Greg and Theressa, hope to see you again. Jim and Pat

Greg and Theresa are the perfect hosts , there with any helpful information about the cottage or local attractions , but descrete at all other times. Theresa was incredibly helpful when I suffered a medical problem , she immediatly dropped what she was doing and took myself and my wife to A&E., Totally above and beyond what you would expect from propety hosts. All in all a wonderful place to relax and explore Lancashire and The Yorkshire Dales. As a keen Amatuer photographer it was great to capture the local wildlife on the door step, including a beautiful Barn Owl. Also to get some amazing Landscape shots around the Dales. Would 100% recommend this property and the Hosts.

The barn is attached to the home of the owners but felt private with its own garden area with wood fired hot tub. The views are simply stunning from the dining area and we spotted some lovely wildlife from the large picture window including a gorgeous white owl, who came regularly at dusk hunting over the fields. The property has been beautifully restored and is comfortable and spacious for a couple. It was really clean and well maintained and we had a good supply of towels with a comfortable super king size bed. Lots of bedroom storage with a wardrobe and large chest of drawers plus bedside cabinets. We liked the double sinks in the bathroom but felt a shower caddy would have been useful in the shower area to hold our toiletries. We found most things provided for in the kitchen but struggled to locate a large baking tray and a washing basket to use with the washer/dryer, although there was a really good sized clothes airer available. We’ve stayed at other UK properties in the past that have provided items such as cling film and foil but thankfully we had taken our own as we would have missed having them available. We chose the property based on it having an EV charger and found it conveniently located next to the barn - it has a 3.6 kWh capacity, was reasonably priced at 35p per kWh and we were invoiced separately after our visit, which worked well. The charger is shared with the owners but they were keen to ensure our needs were met, as we travelled some distance to stay. Within a week of our arrival date we received a welcome pack from the owners by email. It’s an extensive document containing instructions with regard to the property, alongside some great local information - we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch at the Bull in Broughton based on the pack. There are so many places to visit locally with some fabulous walks - we climbed Pendle Hill and walked along the Leeds/Liverpool canal and really loved our day in Skipton with its array of shops and places to eat and drink. In summary Shawclough Barn provides a great base for a stay in this lovely location affording wonderful views and the owners Greg and Theressa are communicative but unobtrusive.
