Guests say

Griffedale Cottage in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, is highly praised for its beautiful surroundings, attention to detail, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the stunning views, local wildlife, and the property's cleanliness. The welcome cake is frequently mentioned as a delightful touch. While most experiences are positive, a few guests noted noise from nearby works and a smell in one of the bedrooms.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as spotlessly clean, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.

The location is generally appreciated for its beautiful countryside views and proximity to local attractions. However, some guests mentioned noise from nearby works and wind turbines, slightly impacting the score.

The reviews reflect a high level of comfort, with guests finding the cottage cosy and homely. The presence of a welcome cake adds to the comfortable experience, although one review mentioned a rough carpet.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped and furnished. However, there are comments about the lack of food storage space and a desire for an electric car charging point.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident in the details, such as the welcome cake, although it should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be provided on every occasion.

The site manager responded very quickly to our request for a shower stool. She definitely put her customers first which is what I call top notch service. Thank you Karen. This cottage has been well designed and is very comfortable. It is well equipped and the Wi-Fi speed is very good. So long as you position your seat correctly, there is a lovely countryside view across the valley with both livestock (sheep and cows) and wildlife (rabbits, hares and many different birds) to keep you entertained. We did that a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the other direction there is a factory building in the yard you drive through to reach the cottage, three wind turbines and a row of pylons and cables. The factory building was quite noisy with constantly running machinery during working hours. As it was quite cold for our visit this was not a problem as you cannot hear it inside the cottage at all, but I suspect it would detract from sitting outside in better weather. The downstairs bedroom has the most storage space and a much larger shower room which is very good indeed. It has a king-size bed. The upstairs (only half-a floor up really) has a super king-size bed but a much smaller shower room and no wardrobe - just a row of pegs with hangers. Both bedrooms have a good amount of drawer space. As we rented the cottage as a couple (just two of us) we slept in the upper bedroom to have the advantage of a cosier room with a bigger bed, but kept our clothes in the downstairs one and used the downstairs shower room. It is a shame they did not put a super-king downstairs as well as there is plenty of room, but using the two rooms in the way that we did worked well and we were very happy with the arrangement. As usual, there were a couple of quirky aspects to the design like the hand-woven carpet in the downstairs bedroom which was extremely rough to walk on in bare feet and, because there was such a huge amount of cooking equipment, there was not actually any cupboard space to store food - just one empty drawer. We enjoyed our stay in Griffedale and we would recommend it to those of our friends who we know, like us, would enjoy the views on its good side. For the future, the addition of a charging point for electric cars would be much appreciated and, within a few more years, will become essential.
