Head off with family or friends to this enticing, three-storey stone cottage within the scenic village of Ashford in the Water. Nestled at the heart of the Peak District National Park, less than 2 miles from Bakewell, this charming location is known for its limestone cottages and medieval Sheepwash Bridge. Sleeping four people and also happy to accommodate two dogs, the two-bedroom property could suit a family or two couples. Follow a section of the 8.5-mile long Monsal Trail, which runs along a former railway line and is suitable for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users. Return to the village for a cup of tea in a cafe.
Open the front door and make your way into the charming lounge/diner, with its inglenook fireplace. Light the wood burner in here and peruse your evening’s viewing on the Smart TV, which comes with Netflix, Apple TV and Sky. Head into the kitchen to prepare delicious dinners for everyone then serve up next door. At the end of your busy day climb up to the first floor to find a double bedroom, with seating space. A twin bedroom and the family bathroom, with freestanding bath, are on the floor above. Find a useful utility room, with washing machine and tumble dryer, out in the courtyard. There is also safe storage space for bikes out here. The shared courtyard is also a pleasant space to enjoy a glass of wine on a warm evening. Parking for the cottage is on the road nearby, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Embark upon a 6-mile circular walk from Ashford in the Water, following the River Wye and cutting through beautiful woodland. Spend your afternoons in Bakewell, where you can potter in colourful shops and enjoy a helping of the town’s renowned pudding in a tearoom.
