River Cottage in Bakewell offers a tranquil, picturesque setting with abundant local wildlife and convenient village amenities. Guests appreciate the cosy atmosphere, the proximity to walking paths and pubs, and the idyllic riverside location. While some guests mention the steep access path and the need for updates and maintenance, the charm of the cottage and its surroundings often outweigh these concerns.
Reviews indicate that cleanliness is generally satisfactory, but there are several mentions of areas needing improvement, such as unclean BBQs, full bins, and a need for more thorough cleaning. These issues suggest that while the cottage is kept in an acceptable state, attention to detail could be enhanced.
The location is highly praised for its beauty, peacefulness, and proximity to local amenities and walking paths. However, the steep access path is noted as a challenge for some, which slightly affects the score.
Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, but there are comments about the need for better sofas and updates to bathroom fittings. The overall comfort is deemed good, but room for improvement is noted.
The cottage is well-equipped for a pleasant stay, but guests have reported issues with maintenance such as blocked toilets, loose taps, and the absence of a washing machine. While the essential facilities are in place, the maintenance concerns affect the score.

A lovely, traditional, stone-built property, River Cottage is the gable end of a row of quaint cottages situated on a steep hillside in the pretty village of Youlgreave, 4 miles from Bakewell. The cottage is full of charm and character with a delightful sitting room and a mature garden area with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Due to the exceptional location of this cottage, the only noise that you will hear is the sound of the river. A footpath leads from the cottage down to the Bradford Dale valley bottom where there are lovely riverside walks and numerous picnic spots, while Youlgreave's old pubs and magnificent church are just a short stroll away. An ideal romantic retreat from which to explore the beauty of the surrounding National Park, Bakewell, with its regular market, Matlock and the unmissable Chatsworth House.
Set in outstanding countryside, Youlgreave is an ancient village between the valleys of Lathkill Dale and Bradford Dale, two of the most stunning areas in the Peak District. It was once the centre of the lead mining industry but is now a charming tourist destination. The village has three public houses, all of which serve food, two shops, a post office and a beautiful medieval church with some parts dating back to the 13th and14th Centuries. The market town of Bakewell is nearby and has a wide selection of shops and eateries along with its Monday market. With so many stately homes, beautiful scenery and outdoor pursuitsthe Peak District has so much to offer as a holiday destination and Youlgreave makes a perfect base to explore this lovely area.
