About this property

Positioned in the heart of the Peak District, in the peaceful village of Monyash, surrounded by a patchwork of green fields, is The Priory. This character cottage offers families and friends the opportunity to explore a beautiful region of walking country. You are invited inside by a home-from-home welcome, with original beams and exposed stonework throughout. There is a utility room and cloakroom off from the hall and a storage area with some household essentials. Prepare a hearty meal in the kitchen and get together around the dining table, toasting to a long-awaiting getaway in Derbyshire. The Range cooker takes centre stage before a host of useful appliances and integrated units. After dinner, step into the sitting room, throw another log on the fire and unwind into the evening before heading up to bed. You have a master king-size room, followed by a double bedroom and a single bedroom, each well-presented for a wonderful stay. The wonderfully appointed bathroom has been fitted with a tiled floor, roll top bathtub, perfect for soaking your aching muscles, and a separate shower cubicle. Outside, you can make the most of a sunny afternoon and sit in the south-facing front lawned garden with a refreshing beverage. Monyash has a good pub known for serving delicious food, if you fancy a night off from the cooking. There is a cafe in the village centre that does food all day, including a wonderful, hearty breakfast; you also have the option to take out. You are also within easy reach of Bakewell, a delightful market town with many shops, pubs and restaurants, along with the local farmers' market, also, nearby is Buxton, home of Buxton Water, a thermal spa town famous for its stunning ornamental gardens and Georgian and Victorian architecture. Explore the stately home of Chatsworth House and even venture out to the enchanting Haddon Hall to stroll its romantic gardens and uncover a long history. Fabulous walking and cycling opportunities await within the Peak District National Park, with many scenic routes to enjoy. The Priory is a delightful base to return to at the end of each day.

The attractive limestone village of Monyash sits at the head of the Lathkill Dale immersed in beautiful scenery. The village was built around the picturesque green, with the remnants of an old market cross, but it now offers a handful of amenities including a village pub and shop. We would have given it five stars and a perfect rating except for two things. We experienced two days when the hot water system kept failing so that the hot shower would turn cold & there was no hot water or heating. Adrian gave helpful advice about resetting it (which we did about 6 -8 times) and I think someone took a look at it because it was much better behaved on our last 3 days. Our only other quibble was the 'double' bedroom. This room is barely wide enough to take a double bed, with less than 20 cms space! Even though we are both thin we couldn't manage in here as I worried about bashing my knee on the bulky radiator at the side so hubby slept here and I decamped to the single bed (we had given the lovely large room to our guests). In my view this room would be much better as a single or with bunk beds.

We have been holidaying in The Peaks for several years and this cottage was a great find. Excellent location for exploring The Peak Dustrict, close to village pub and such a spacious, clean comfortable cottage.
