Guests say

Guests are generally pleased with this charming cottage, highlighting its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and welcoming atmosphere. The location is appreciated for its proximity to local attractions and nature trails. The presence of a friendly peacock and other free-range livestock adds a unique touch. Some guests suggest improvements to the shower and note the lack of bedroom doors for privacy.

The cottage receives high praise for its cleanliness, with multiple guests noting it as clean and well-maintained. The consistent mention of cleanliness across reviews supports a high score in this category.

The location is frequently described as great, with easy access to the Peak District and local market towns. Some guests mention road noise, but the overall sentiment is positive, reflecting a high score.

Comfort is a strong point, with guests finding the beds very comfortable and the cottage cosy. However, some guests mention the lack of bedroom doors and early morning noise from a peacock, slightly affecting the score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped. However, recommendations for shower improvements and the mention of a non-working TV suggest there is room for enhancement in this area.

Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like milk and biscuits on arrival, though it is noted that such gestures are a bonus and may vary. The overall positive reception to these details contributes to the score.

Would return and would recommend. Great location for the southern Peak District. Kitchen has everything you need, main bed is super comfy, fast WiFi. No smart TV so take your own fire stick or similar. Kids loved the peacock which was always wandering around. Cleanliness is ok. Place heats up really quickly which is lovely after a cold Autumn walk. Listing needs updating to show bathroom is so much nicer. The bathroom has been updated and is a lovely shower room but listing shows bathroom before update. Shame to do the work and not show it off. Additionally our youngest kid is 4 so she can shower but if she was younger we would have wanted the bath which has been taken out and replaced with the shower. We would have wanted to know that ahead of the visit. The listing could also be more clear about the doors between sleeping areas. The listing says there are no doors but recent reviews say there are. There's a galleried landing above the lounge and there are doors on the bedrooms leading onto that landing. However there is another passage up and down a small flight of stairs which connects the bedrooms and there isn't a door on that due to the shape of the barn. No issue for our kids as they're 6 and 4 but if you had teenagers or two couples that would be an issue for privacy. There's a door between the lounge and hallway leading up to the bedrooms so adults can stay up late after the kids go to bed.

There was enough 'bits' provided to get you started (milk, tea etc etc) and as I was late arriving I ended up taking the quick option of driving into Hartington village where the chippy is in residence on Friday evenings. There is a massive pigeon* loose on the property, the only thing to watch for is the poo droppings that can appear anywhere in your path. At any time. You could end up taking it into the property. The property warmed up quicker than my house! I have already booked my space at the property next year. *= Pheasant really, not a pigeon. :-)
