Guests say

Rowan Cottage in Matlock, Derbyshire, is praised for its comfort, picturesque village setting, and beautiful views. Guests appreciate the well-equipped space, quality bedding, and thoughtful touches like a welcome basket. Some concerns over cleanliness and maintenance were noted, but with attention to detail, this cottage has the potential to be an exceptional stay.

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dirty windows, kitchen floors, and a stained duvet. However, the letting company did offer to address these concerns.

The cottage is commended for its beautiful location with gorgeous views and proximity to Carsington Water and a local pub. The location is described as picturesque and convenient for walks.

Guests find the cottage comfortable and relaxing, with comfy beds and a generally cosy atmosphere. However, some guests experienced issues with parking and slippery outdoor paths.

The property is well-equipped with essentials like a dishwasher and laundry facilities. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as hard-to-open windows and a lack of fireplace utensils.

Guests were pleased with thoughtful touches like a goody basket, but as gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, this is a delightful bonus rather than a standard provision.

A lovely little cottage, nestled in the hillside not far from Carsington Water. An easy location to head out for a walk around the water and perfectly located for the Miners Arms which serves great food and has loads of outside space to eat and drink. Plenty of space for 4 people at the cottage. Parking is tight (room for only 1 car) so best ask the owner for guidance on where to leave other cars during your stay. Lovely views over Carsington Water and fields of sheep.

We had a lovely time at Rowan Cottage and would thoroughly recommend it. There was everything we needed, including dishwasher, laundry and washing-up liquid, also a goody basket with tea bags, coffee pods, biscuits and chocolate! Beds were comfy and bedding/towels were of good quality. We were also blessed with lovely weather. Parking on the narrow road outside the cottage was challenging at times as we have a big car. The only downside for us was the awful journeys we had there and back because of roadworks and heavy traffic!

Cottage is in a beautiful location with gorgeous views . It was spoilt by the lack of attention to cleaning including dirty door mat and kitchen windows, sticky kitchen floor, dusty ornaments and stained duvet on the double bed . There are also maintenance issues that require attention which we have reported including windows that are very hard to open and shut . We did speak to the holiday letting company on arrival and they offered to send cleaners to deep clean … I had already cleaned and suggested that they make sure it was all rectified before the next people arrived. With a bit of attention this could be a great place stay .
