Snaptrip says

Haulfryn is a well-loved cottage praised for its stunning views, beautiful gardens, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the thoughtful welcome packages and the property's well-equipped nature. Despite some comments about mobile signal issues and occasional maintenance matters, the charm and comfort of the cottage shine through, making it a favoured choice for a peaceful getaway in North Wales.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, with only a few isolated reports of cleanliness issues. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, as most reviews reflect a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and tranquillity, with stunning views and wildlife. Some guests mentioned the remoteness and lack of mobile signal as part of its charm, although a few found this inconvenient.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as comfortable and cosy, with comfortable beds and a homely feel. There are some mentions of low doorways and personal preferences for firmer mattresses, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

The cottage is well-equipped for a relaxing break, with a well-maintained garden and necessary amenities. However, some guests noted issues with water pressure and the wood burner, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.

Guests frequently mention and appreciate the welcome packages, which include items like food, wine, and logs for the fire. While these gestures are highly valued, it's important to note that such extras, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This attractive, stone-built, detached cottage is conveniently situated in a rural setting, on the outskirts of Llangynog village. The village rests at the foot of the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass, in the heart of the Berwyn Mountains in Powys. Charming and full of character, this cosy cottage welcomes you in through an open porch, which leads into the well-styled sitting room with comfy sofas and a woodburning stove set in a red brick inglenook hearth. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with a social dining area, and it also retains the original range with a feature oven and a further woodburning stove to provide character and warmth. Upstairs are two lovely double bedrooms with superb views across the valley, both offering some en-suite facilities in addition to the family bathroom, which has a bath and shower over. There is also door access off the landing into the rear garden. The property, a former lead miner’s cottage thought to date back to the 1820s, has been carefully modernised to retain original features where possible, whilst providing a modern country cottage feel throughout. A particular feature of the cottage are the extensive terraced gardens with many interesting plants and shrubs. Outside, the well-kept gardens to front and rear offer superb views down the Tanat Valley, and sunny seating areas to sit and relax, planning the activities for the coming days. The cottage is in a fantastic location for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and climbers, and a walk to Rhaeadr Waterfall should not be shirked, as it is the highest single drop waterfall in the UK. For a calmer walk, but equally as stunning, a trail leads from the cottage in the other direction to St Melangell’s Church, one of the remotest churches in Britain. Haulfryn is a superb cottage in a fantastic location for a relaxing break at any time of the year!

The pleasant village of Llangynog lies in breathtaking countryside amidst the beautiful Berwyn Mountains and surrounding wooded hills and valleys. It is a renowned location for climbing, birdwatching, walking and cycling, with famous mountain bike trails near Dolgellau, and a mountain bike centre at Llandegla.

Lovely location and well kept gardens.

Everything is so well maintained and the cottage is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed sitting in the garden with a coffee and puzzle book or book...and enjoyed the fantastic scenery. We also enjoyed watching the birds and at night I could hear an owl. The walks around the cottage are amazing and we also enjoyed visiting the beaches at Barmouth and Tywyn. We had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful facilities. Terrific area to explore. However, steep steps up to the cottage from the road. Slate on top of the steps that are very slippery when wet and no hand rail. I slipped coming down and injured my knee which rather curtailed my activities for the rest of the stay. I would advise not using this route but come from the drive and not park in layby as advised.
