Chirk 1 mile. A charming, stone mid-terrace cottage, on a working sheep farm, in the scattered hamlet of Pontfaen, one mile from Chirk and 3/4 mile from the train station. This fantastic eco-friendly barn conversion offers delightful holiday accommodation in a stunning setting with views along the valley to the famous Chirk Aqueduct and viaduct, across open countryside and onto the River Ceiriog. Stepping inside you will recognise the attention to detail, with a welcoming entrance hall opening into a fully fitted modern kitchen with dining areas and garden views. The sitting room is spacious and well-thought-out, with character features re-introduced to include wooden wall frames, oak ceiling beams and stylish country furniture. French doors invite you out onto the private patio and three steps lead down onto a shared lawn area, all enjoying the unique views to the World Heritage site of the aqueduct. Upstairs the cottage is equally well laid out with an attractive double bedroom, a single room and a king-size bedroom with en-suite shower facilities. There is private parking on the shared courtyard in front of the cottage, allowing you to park your car safely and enjoy exploring the doorstep countryside trails on foot, with Chirk Castle's famous 'pretty gates' only 1/2 mile away and the nearby Shropshire Way, Offas Dyke, Llwybr Ceiriog Trail and Llwybr Maelor Way, perhaps walking to the local pub which is a 15 minute walk along the river. Spending your holiday in such an idyllic, tranquil location is certain to create superb memories of this wonderful holiday cottage and surrounding area.
The small border town of Chirk stands on the escarpment above where the rivers Ceiriog and Dee meet, and is referred to as The Gateway to Wales.
