Guests say

Oak Meadow is a characterful cottage with a cosy kitchen/diner and beautiful garden, offering a peaceful sanctuary with nice views. Guests have enjoyed the local history and vineyard walks, though some noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. The property is dog-friendly and has been appreciated for its log burner and welcome pack.

Cleanliness has received mixed feedback. Some guests found the property to be tidy, while others noted the presence of dog hairs and unclean dishwashing supplies. The need for better cleaning has been mentioned, particularly in the toilets.

The location is appreciated for its proximity to Hastings, Rye, and Battle, with nice vineyard views. However, some guests found the nearby shotgun fire disturbing and the property less secluded than expected due to its position next to a vineyard's visitor area.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with a lovely long sofa and warm duvets mentioned. However, concerns about steep stairs, high beds, and the lack of a separate shower for those with limited mobility have been raised.

Facilities have been a point of contention. Guests enjoyed the log burner and the welcome pack, but reported issues with blocked toilets, broken locks, and a lack of privacy in the sunroom. Some furnishings and kitchenware also require updating or replacement.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident in the welcome pack provided, which included items like milk, butter, and dog treats. However, it should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Settled in the picturesque High Welds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the outskirts of Westfield, East Sussex is Oak Meadow. This delightful, dog-friendly holiday home has been thoroughly renovated providing a welcoming and stylish interior completed by three well-appointed bedrooms and a wonderful location overlooking the Carr Taylor Vineyard; it also boasts a fantastic location with access to both coast and countryside, the perfect choice for families or couples looking to explore all Sussex has to offer. Cross the threshold into your new home-from-home where you can unwind in the sitting room where the soothing crackle of the woodburning stove greets you; later flick on the Smart TV or step through to the kitchen/diner to start preparing dinner. Utilise the facilities in the kitchen to cook up a storm which can be enjoyed by the whole family around the table, afterwards step through the conservatory to the garden where you can raise a glass of wine to your getaway while admiring the views out over the vineyard; the perfect place to admire the stars filling the sky. When the evening ends, head upstairs to wash off the day’s adventures in the bathroom before sloping off to sleep in the super-king-size or the two doubles. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic holiday home, head into the centre of Westfield where you can stock up on all your self-catering essentials at the local store or treat your loved ones to a delicious meal at The New Inn. Those looking to experience the coast can head to Hastings where you can admire stunning views out to sea or alternatively immerse yourself in the past at the ruins of Hastings Castle and embark on an underground adventure at Smuggler Adventure or learn more about under the sea at Hastings Aquarium. Guests can continue the historic excursion at Battle where you can tour the ruins of Battle Abbey or the site of the infamous 1066 battle. All this and more awaits at Oak Meadow!

A thriving community, Westfield can be found just six miles inland from Hastings. It's convenient for getting around the rest of Sussex and Kent, making it a good home base for exploring the South Coast. On the outskirts of the village is Maplehurst Wood, a 78-acre stretch of ancient woodland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest where numerous bird species, including the kestrel, tawny owl, woodpecker, and nuthatch, make their nests. Westfield is an excellent choice for those who yearn for peaceful days spent strolling through the countryside, fishing, or playing golf. Westfield, originally named Westewelle, has been one of the largest villages in the area since the Doomsday period. Nowadays, it's also home to the popular Carr Taylor Vineyards, where visitors can enjoy vineyard strolls, tours, and wine tastings. In addition to a well-stocked general store, newstand, butcher, delicatessen, and hair salon, the neighbourhood also boasts a welcoming pub known as The New Inn. The Wild Mushroom Restaurant is a great option for a romantic dinner. Just six miles away in the town of Hastings, you can go for a dip in the ocean, go rummaging for treasure on the beach, or explore the ruins of a mediaeval castle. Battle, a short drive to the west, is the place to go if you want to explore some battlements or have a traditional Sussex cream tea. Battle is lovely year-round thanks to the social history museum Yesterday's World and its surrounding quaint shops and cobblestone streets, and Westfield is a great home base.

We especially liked the cosy kitchen/diner and the lovely outside space. We only have one suggestion: Some more forks and plates would be handy of you are staying with 5 or 6 people.

Unique and a great relaxing location. Probably not for everyone who wants a ultra modern place but it was perfect for us and the dogs
