1 Church Cottages in Westmeston is a beautifully renovated, cosy cottage praised for its tasteful decoration, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the convenient location with easy access to walks and local attractions. The welcoming hosts and thoughtful touches, including a generous food hamper, are frequently mentioned. Some guests noted traffic noise and the lack of a downstairs toilet, but these were minor points in otherwise glowing reviews.
There are no explicit comments on cleanliness, so it's not possible to provide a score.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to walks on the Downs and local amenities. However, a minor deduction is made due to a single mention of traffic noise.
Guests consistently mention the comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere, suggesting a high level of comfort. The only minor issue raised was the lack of a downstairs toilet for someone with mobility problems.
The property is commended for its well-equipped kitchen, quality linens, and the presence of an Aga. Points are slightly reduced due to a single mention of a small TV and a desire for lighter duvets and espresso cups.
The owners are noted for their thoughtfulness, providing advice on local pubs, a generous food hamper, and a homemade cake. It should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.
Refurbished to an impeccable standard, 1 Church Cottages is a beautifully finished semi-detached Victorian cottage positioned, as the name suggests, just across from the Norman church of St Martins.
Set in the centre of the ancient village of Westmeston at the foot of the South Downs, the cottage is the perfectly positioned for exploring the beautiful rural landscape of East Sussex. The south coast is only 30 minutes' drive away with beaches at Brighton, Saltdean and Seaford.
The property has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail and retains many of its Victorian period features such as the original fireplaces in both bedrooms. On the ground floor is the spacious, tastefully decorated sitting room with cosy wood burning stove for those cooler winter evenings. French doors open onto the secluded garden, which has two terraces for guests to relax and unwind in the summer sunshine. There is an open-plan dining area with a table and four chairs and a country style kitchen with electric aga and breakfast table with bench seats. Both bedrooms can be found on the first floor. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and has lovely views on to the south-east facing garden and to the church beyond. Completing the room is the integrated en-suite facilities with a free-standing, claw-foot bath, washbasin and a separate WC. The second bedroom has a super-king size bed and large wardrobe with plenty of storage space. There is also a family shower room with spacious walk in shower.
The local area has many picturesque walks to discover. A real highlight for guests is bound to be the footpath from the front of the house that leads directly to The Downs. There are also two excellent pubs within 2 miles walking distance of the cottage, as well as an abundance of cafés, pubs and restaurants a little further afield in Lewes (6 miles) and Brighton (7½ miles).

A lovely cottage. Very comfortable. All the essentials there. Nice walks and days out. Lovely garden. Aga interesting to use! Lovely toiletries. Good communication with owner. Only downside for us was very small TV to watch tennis.
