About this property

Sat above Freshwater Bay this distinctive caponier apartment linked to Fort Redoubt, a Palmerston Fort built under Prime Minister Lord Palmerston during the Victorian period in 1856, is steeped in history. The fort was originally constructed to provide defence against the French who might land at Freshwater Bay in order to attack the Needles battery. The caponier was constructed to enable the soldiers to shoot along the moat if the enemy should attack the Redoubt in this way. It makes for a fantastic base to explore the many activities and attractions nearby, from the water sports available on its doorstep at Freshwater Bay to The Needles park close by. With over 70 miles of Coastline, there are plenty of beaches to choose from. This former derelict building has been transformed into comfortable and spacious holiday accommodation, ideal for families to come and enjoy this rare offering. Enter the grounds of Fort Redoubt over the bridge which crosses the moat next to where the caponier apartments are situated. The Access to the caponier is via a staircase though an entrance door from the forts central parade square. Head through the tunnel and down the stairs to the first apartment entrance, the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner can be found beyond the double doors from the hallway. There is a TV and warming gas stove in the lounge and a fully equipped kitchen complete with electric oven and induction hob, microwave, Lakeland coffee machine, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. The dining table has ample seating for the whole group to gather and socialise. All bedrooms can be found along the corridor opposite the lounge, there is a twin bedroom, king size bedroom and additional king size with en suite shower room and WC. The bathroom, complete with bath and shower over and WC can be located at the end of the corridor with an existing archway visible through the modernisation of the apartment. There is allocated parking for two cars in the central parade square. A table and chairs are provided to sit out and enjoy the shared grounds in the moat and a BBQ is also provided.
