Guests say

The Carthouse in Newport, Isle of Wight, is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. Set in a serene, rural location on a working farm, guests appreciate the warm welcome from the hosts and the thoughtful touches, including a welcome tray. The property's large garden and proximity to local attractions make it ideal for families and those seeking a peaceful retreat.

Guests consistently mention the property's cleanliness, with reports of it being 'very clean' and 'immaculate'. One review noted a less than perfect experience, but this appears to be an isolated incident.

The location is frequently described as beautiful and quiet, with easy access to local sights and amenities. Its setting on a working farm adds to the charm, although no specific negative comments provide a balanced view.

Numerous reviews highlight the comfort of the cottage, mentioning comfortable beds and a homely feel. The presence of toys for children and a warm atmosphere contribute to the high comfort level experienced by guests.

The Carthouse is commended for being well-equipped with everything needed for a stay. While there is a mention of a heating challenge and a tired shower cubicle, the swift response from the hosts to resolve issues shows good maintenance practices.

Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures such as cakes and welcome trays on arrival. While these are greatly appreciated, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, are at the discretion of the hosts and not guaranteed.

About this property

This thoughtfully-converted old cart house is superbly located on a mixed working farm, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the delightful village of Shorwell on the Isle of Wight. Caringly appointed throughout to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation, this Shorwell cottage is perfect for couples, friends or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy the sheer beauty this part of the island has to offer. Set entirely on the ground floor, this Shorwell cottage offers a light and spacious sitting room with dining area and French doors leading out to the garden, along with a fitted kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed. You will enjoy stunning countryside views from the sitting room, kitchen and twin bedroom in your Isle of Wight cottage. Outside, you will find an extremely large, private lawned garden with patio area, perfect for enjoying an energetic game or two, or simply relaxing with a morning coffee as you watch the daily life of the farm. The beautiful, historic village of Shorwell was developed around St. Peter's Church and its three manor houses, of which West Court is the oldest, dating back to c.1500. Queen Victoria is said to have favoured Shorwell over any other village on the Isle of Wight. Apart from outstanding walks and exhilarating mountain biking, just a few minutes' walk from your Isle of Wight cottage you will find The Crown Inn, as featured in the AA's Britain's Best Pubs 2011 and 2012, and well worth a visit. Just outside the village, why not explore the west coast beaches of Brighstone and Compton Bay, where at low tide you might be lucky enough to spot the odd dinosaur footprint? Alternatively, head up the road towards Newport and you will discover Carisbrooke Castle, a must for all the family. The perfect Shorwell cottage from which to explore this wonderful island, any time of the year.

Shorwell is a village on the Isle of Wight, 6 miles from Newport, and is reputed to be one of Queen Victoria's favourite places to visit. The village offers a shop, pub and Post Office. Wonderful scenic walking can be enjoyed while some lovely beaches are an easy drive away.
