The Gate House, set in the stunning grounds of a deserted mansion, offers a peaceful and idyllic retreat. Guests have praised its cosy and comfortable atmosphere, perfect for romantic getaways or quiet weekends. The surrounding area is excellent for walking, and the property provides a unique experience of staying within National Trust grounds.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the cottage to be very clean and well-presented, while others reported issues with cobwebs, dust, and general cleanliness. The inconsistency suggests room for improvement in this area.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beauty, and proximity to walking areas. Set within the grounds of a National Trust property, it offers a unique and peaceful setting that guests have thoroughly enjoyed.

The cottage is frequently described as cosy and comfortable, particularly the bed linen and the wood burner. However, some guests mentioned that the furniture, such as the settee, could be more comfortable, and the small size of the cottage may not suit everyone.

Facilities and maintenance received mixed feedback. Guests appreciated the charm of the cottage but noted limitations such as the lack of cooking facilities, absence of a shower, and issues with some appliances. These points suggest that while the cottage has charm, there is a need for better maintenance and updated facilities.

While some guests mentioned welcome packs and gifts, there is not enough consistent information across the reviews to accurately assess the level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is politely noted that while some guests may receive welcome gifts, these are not guaranteed for all stays.

The property was small, but compact and had everything you needed including a very comfortable king size bed. The owner came to see that we had settled in and gave us a bit of the history about the house. Able to wonder around the grounds of the house once it had closed to the public. So peaceful.

Such a comfortable bed. Beautiful grounds that you have the freedom to explore after 4pm on your own when the grounds are closed to the public. Dog friendly. Beautiful surroundings and secure parking makes for a relaxed and comfortable holiday. Will definitely be booking again for next year......

We still got bruises on our legs from the wooden bed frame. It would have been useful to have instructions for the microwave and TV. We did eventually work them both out. The location more than makes up for these very minor issues . It was so lovely to stay again.
