About this property

This beautiful, traditional oast house, renovated to a high standard, sits on the edge of the High Weald AONB in the picturesque Kent countryside. Sleeping twelve guests across five superb bedrooms and with three bathrooms, it is a wonderful place to relax and unwind with family or friends in the heart of the English countryside.

Historically used for drying hops as part of the brewing process, this large oast house is now a stunning holiday property just outside pretty Sissinghurst. With its pair of roundels, it is an impressive property when viewed from outside. Inside, the property is equally wonderful - light and spacious and full of quirky characterful features. Upon entering, guests are greeted by the wonderful hallway, with its stone floor and exposed brickwork complemented by the warm wood of the staircase leading up to the first-floor gallery. From here, a door leads into the huge double-ended lounge, with stone floor and underfloor heating, and a magnificent brick fireplace at the centre where a wood burner glows. At one end, there is a comfortable seating area, with three sofas attractively arranged in this circular space, and a wall-mounted plasma TV. At the other end there is a second seating area with an upright piano. Both seating areas have patio doors opening into the attractive garden. The large kitchen/diner is a fabulous space in which guests can gather and socialise. Well-equipped and stylish, the kitchen has everything guests might need for cooking up some memorable meals.

Heading upstairs, guests will discover the wonderful gallery, with its high ceiling and original exposed beams. The five beautiful bedrooms, with their uniquely curved shape, are simply yet tastefully furnished to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep. The spacious master bedroom has a contemporary en-suite bathroom and there is also a family bathroom on the first floor as well as a handy shower room downstairs. The fifth bedroom has both a double bed and a bunk bed, making it ideal for younger guests.

Stepping out into the garden, guests will appreciate the large swathe of lawn that stretches out before them. The large patio has a picnic table and additional seating perfect for relaxing in the sunshine, and also a gas barbecue for alfresco dining on warm days. Extending to 14 acres, the grounds are a delight, with mature trees framing the view and creating a private haven of tranquillity. Sissinghurst Oast is a wonderfully unique and historic property in the heart of the Kent countryside, ideal for relaxing with friends or family. Ideally located for exploring the beautiful countryside as well as visits to nearby Royal Tunbridge Wells and pretty Tenterden for a spot of shopping.

The pretty village of Sissinghurst sits on the edge of the High Weald aonb, 15 miles east of Royal Tunbridge Wells and 17 miles away from the south coast. The beautiful rolling countryside is a patchwork of fields and hedgerows first created in the 14th century by medieval farmers. Today, the area is home to a multitude of pretty villages, woodland and historic parks.

Just outside the village is Sissinghurst Castle Garden. This glorious National Trust property was once the home of writer Vita Sackville-West and her husband, who together created a range of different garden rooms, still lovingly cared for today. Explore the Cottage Garden, the fragrant Rose Garden, the Herb garden, to name a few, and also the recreated Delos, which Vita was inspired to create after a visit to the Greek island. Enjoy a stroll down to the lake and take in the beautifully topiaried rondel. Inside the castle itself, visitors can climb up to the turret where Vita wrote her books and planned out the garden below, and admire the huge library of books and collections of furniture, ceramics and artworks, gathered over the many years that the couple lived there.

The picture perfect town of Tenterden, with its pretty jumble of Georgian and Victorian houses is a lovely place to while away a few hours. The Lower High Street is home to a number of attractive weather boarded properties, many of them hundreds of years old, now home to various speciality shops, tea rooms and restaurants. Browse the town’s delightful array of antique shops, galleries, craft and book shops before settling down to a leisurely lunch.

Wine lovers may well appreciate a visit to nearby Chapel Down Vineyard. One of several vineyards in the area, Chapel Down produces a range of award-winning still and sparkling wines, made using the Traditional Method. Guests can book a guided tour to learn about the process, tour the vineyard and enjoy a tutored tasting to finish. Guests can also enjoy lunch in the Swan Wine Kitchen restaurant.

The pretty seaside town of Rye is just over half an hour’s drive south from Sissinghurst. Enjoy a stroll around this pretty medieval town before heading for a walk around the beautiful Rye Harbour nature reserve or an afternoon on the beach at glorious Camber Sands, a stretch of golden sandy beach that reaches almost five miles along the coast and is a popular spot for kite surfing.
