The Hemmel in Oxfordshire offers a characterful and quirky stay with a great location and lovely village nearby. Guests appreciate the property's style, the games room, and the thoughtful touches like bubbles and chocolate. While some guests had a fantastic time and found the property cosy and well-equipped, others noted maintenance issues and a need for better cleanliness.
Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property to be clean and tidy, while others reported issues such as cobwebs, dirty skirting boards, and unclean kitchen appliances. The inconsistency in cleanliness experiences has led to a slightly above average score.
The location is frequently praised for being fantastic, quiet, and ideal for exploring the Cotswolds, Oxford, and surrounding areas. The proximity to a local pub and the peacefulness of the area contribute to a high score for location.
Comfort receives positive remarks for cosy interiors and comfortable beds, but some guests mention issues such as squeaky beds and uncomfortable sofas. The mix of positive and negative feedback results in a score that reflects overall satisfactory comfort with room for improvement.
Facilities have been a point of contention among guests. Positive mentions include high-quality appliances and a well-equipped games room. However, recurring maintenance issues such as shower problems, lack of instructions, and inadequate seating have impacted the score, placing it slightly above average.
Guests have noted lovely touches like bubbles, chocolate, and fresh eggs, which demonstrate thoughtfulness. However, as these gifts are not consistently mentioned or guaranteed, the score reflects a good level of thoughtfulness with the understanding that such gestures may vary.
Once again this owner has used her unique (and quirky!) style to create a stunning holiday property. This cottage really does have everything you could want or need. Located in a quiet corner of Oxfordshire and on the edge of a classic country village (Little Coxwell). The Hemmel, situated in the grounds of the owner's stunning farmhouse is filled with classic character - from the exposed beams and stone walls, to the original well (safely 'capped') located in the courtyard garden. The interior is cool and contemporary and provides luxurious accommodation: the twin bedroom and separate family shower room are simply but very tastefully presented. However, the standout feature in this lovely cottage has to be the master bedroom suite, where you can laze in the glorious roll top bath in the corner of the bedroom and admire the Oxfordshire countryside in the fields surrounding the cottage. The cottage represents the perfect choice for families or friends looking to get away from it all. On the doorstep you have wonderful walks, and a highly regarded pub serving terrific food in the village. If you prefer to prepare your own then you have 3 supermarkets less than 2 miles from the cottage. With Oxford about 25 mins drive away and the shoppers paradise of MacArthur Glen 30 mins away, you have got everything for a great break in a superb self catering home.
If additional accommodation is required, The Hemmel can be booked along with The Linhay (988824) to give enough space for 10 guests in 5 bedrooms.
