From your very first step into the cottage you are aware of the perfect blending of old and new. A modern kitchen leads through to the newly added garden room with direct access to the rear garden. The spacious dining area has beautiful exposed Cotswold stone walls and enough seating for eight guests. The main sitting room, with inglenook fireplace, wood burning stove and exposed beams offers a perfect place to retire to of an evening as night draws in. The garden room doubles up as a movie/entertainments room with a Sony 4k television, Bluetooth soundbar, DVD player, library of books and plenty of board games to keep all ages amused.
Each first floor wing of the house is accessed by its own staircase leading to two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom of each wing has a king-size bed and floor to ceiling windows complete with Juliet balcony overlooking the gardens and woodlands.
Outside is a private landscaped garden looking out onto the meadow and the village ford. With plenty of outdoor seating this is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or an early evening drink after a long day exploring the Cotswolds.
The village was used as a location in the popular television drama, Downton Abbey: the Old Forge, beside the ford, became the Red Lion pub and the delightful little 18th century hump-backed bridge also featured. With its attractive ford across ‘The Shill’ brook, a traditional village green, pretty stone cottages and the popular Rose and Crown village pub (just across the road form The Chestnuts), the village of Shilton is a truly wonderful Cotswold experience.

Perfect family weekend break The cottage is lovely, light, bright and yet cosy. Relaxing living spaces, fresh and comfortable beds and all impeccably clean. Everything in place that you could need in the kitchen. Loved the new garden room. With pretty views across the meadows to the ford, the garden would be a perfect sun trap in warm weather. The Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring The Cotswolds. We spent a wonderful family weekend and we are sad to leave so soon. Hope to come back.

Wonderful Midweek break in lovely comfortable and relaxing surroundings. The house is a very tranquil place to relax and particularly loved the new garden room with comfy chairs, big windows and lots of light, looking out over the garden towards the stream and the ford. Very comfortable bed and great Blackout curtains for a good nights sleep and lovely bathroom. We were really able to wind down and relax and enjoy everything the house had to offer, including excellent coffee bean grinder, great wine glasses (priority items) and everything you need in the kitchen. Plus we were able to do some nice exploring around the village of Shilton on foot – loved the church and church yard up at the top of the village. This is such a lovely part of the country to visit and there was no risk of not finding something interesting to do, or visit locally, with all the information and ideas on hand at the chestnuts. Will be back.
