This award winning cottage situated in the beautiful village of Shilton is a perfect Cotswolds getaway. The Chestnuts has been lovingly restored and refurbished throughout, preserving many of the original traditional features such as its oak beams, stone floors and inglenook fireplace.
As you step inside you will notice a perfect blending of the old and the new. A modern, contemporary well-equipped kitchen leads through to the garden room, which doubles up as a movie/entertainments room with state of the art Sony 4k television, Bluetooth soundbar and DVD player. Plenty of board games and a library of books will keep all ages amused. The spacious dining area with its exposed Cotswold stone walls has seating for eight guests. The main sitting room features exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood burning stove making it the perfect place to kick of your shoes, relax and unwind at the end of each day.
The two first floor wings are reached by their own staircase, which each lead to two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The larger bedroom of each wing has a king-size bed and a Juliet balcony with views out to the landscaped gardens and woodlands.
Outside you will find a private landscaped garden looking onto the meadow and the village ford. A peaceful spot to enjoy your morning coffee or an early evening drink after a long day of exploring the Cotswolds.
You may recognise the village as the filming location for the television drama series Downton Abbey. Indeed, the delightful little 18th century hump-backed bridge featured, and during filming the Old Forge (beside the ford), became the Red Lion pub. With a traditional village green, attractive ford across ‘The Shill’ brook, its pretty stone cottages and the popular Rose and Crown village pub (just across the road from the property), The Chestnuts in the village of Shilton is the idyllic Cotswold experience.

Superb, well equipped cottage. Seamless, professional service from start to finish. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

We had a lovely stay at the house, it was very well equipped for renting. The decor was beautiful and there is definitely plenty of space for 8 people. As quaint as the cottage is, I think you need to mention in the property details that one of the staircases are extremely steep and windy stone. They are beautiful but 2 of our couples would not have been able to access them and you cant use the other staircase instead. I would highly recommend this beautiful, house and village if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.
