About this property

Nestled just outside the village of West Chiltington, amidst the rolling scenery of Sussex, is this charming dwelling, The Old Granary. Carefully refurbished to a high standard, this cottage has been sympathetically designed to accentuate the building’s original purpose as a grain store, providing a romantic escape for those seeking a real country living experience. As you enter your new-home-from-home, you’ll immediately notice the beautiful, exposed beams throughout, emphasising the age of the property. The kitchen and dining area are well-appointed with all the mod cons required for a short break, including a hob, microwave, fridge with freezer box and even a dishwasher, so you won’t have to lift a finger when it comes to washing up! Wind your way to the first floor, home to a spacious living room where you will be wowed by the high vaulted ceiling and stylish log burner at the end of the room, while there is also a sumptuous sofa perfect for snuggling down after a long day exploring the countryside. As the night rolls in, head back downstairs to the bedroom, featuring a king-size bed and ample storage space for your personal items. Wake up to a refreshing rinse in the contemporary shower room, appointed with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail. Step outside and enjoy a moment in the patio garden, furnished with a set of table and chairs, ideal for alfresco dining or simply a drink in the summer breeze. Local amenities including a PO/village shop, convenience store, butcher, and even a beauty salon and hairdresser are close by for your convenience. Nearby are also several farm shops, a winery with bar/coffee shop, and several good local pubs. Details can be found in the manual inside the property. West Chiltington village, just over a mile away, has a 13th century church with original ancient wall paintings, a windmill and many good walks. Local of acreage locally is under vine and the most famous local winery, Nyetimber produces world class sparkling wine. Days out can be enjoyed in the nearby towns of Petworth, about 20 minutes away, with Petworth House and Park (National Trust) well worth a visit and there are many local boutiques and cafes to explore. Or why not visit the town of Arundel, with its mediaeval castle, imposing cathedral and views over the Arun Valley, and the nearby Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust? The Old Granary is 30 minutes from Goodwood, famous for horse racing, motorsport, aviation and golf. Cowdray Park, Midhurst, where you might catch a glimpse of world class polo is also within a 30 minute drive. The cathedral city of Chichester is half an hour way, with shops, restaurants and the Festival theatre, and a stunning estuary, with a number of picturesque villages to discover. The south coast towns of Brighton and Worthing make a great day out, or take a trip to West Beach in Littlehampton or Goring by Sea, where you can sample fish and chips and take a paddle in the sea. Walking on the South Downs is an experience not to be missed and is easily accessible from Storrington and Washington villages. Boats can be hired from Houghton village, close to Amberley in the Arun (which is a beautiful village famous for its castle (now a luxury hotel) and thatched cottages). It has an excellent local pub! More details of local attractions can be found in the useful manual available at the property. Why not soak up the charming coast and countryside of West Sussex at the Old Granary”.

Very clean throughout. The main living space is on the first floor with log burner and comfortable seating. The bedroom, dining area, kitchen, and bathroom with excellent shower, are on the ground floor. It’s an ideal property from which to explore West Sussex and the south coast. The owners were very helpful and welcoming and I fully enjoyed my visit.

Has a lovely upstairs living area in a lovely rustic style. This property is a great base to explore the surrounding area with many places of interest, from coast to countryside, and easily reachable within an hour or less travelling time. Also lots of pubs etc with good eating options within a ten mile radius.
