Guests have had mixed experiences at Buddy's Place, with some appreciating the local hospitality and others noting areas for improvement. The property has potential, but issues such as maintenance and cleanliness have affected the overall experience. The local pub offers delightful meals, and the caretaker, Tom, has been commended for his helpfulness.
Cleanliness is a concern, with reports of dog poo on the balcony and a need for general cleaning. The presence of mould and a cracked bath also indicate a lack of thorough upkeep.
There is insufficient information provided in the reviews to accurately assess the location of the property.
Comfort has been compromised due to broken bed frames resulting in guests sleeping on mattresses on the floor, and issues with bedroom doors not fitting properly.
Facilities and maintenance require attention; guests reported a lack of hot water, heating, and electrical issues. The property also lacks sufficient cups, glasses, and working lamps.
The thoughtfulness of the caretaker, Tom, is a positive note, with guests mentioning a complimentary meal. However, it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed and may not reflect the overall service.

On the heavily forested banks of the River Tamar, the tiny rural community of Gunnislake is located. Village bars and a limited number of shops are present. The village is notable for being at one end of the picturesque Tamar Valley Railway, which offers frequent services along the river's edge to Plymouth. Dartmoor, the beaches on the south and north coasts, and the attractions in western Cornwall are all easily accessible from the area. The Dartmoor town of Tavistock, with its pannier market, pubs, and restaurants, is close by, as is the well-liked fishing village of Calstock, known for its crafts and festivals. It takes only 10 minutes to get to the Donkey Sanctuary and Cotehele House and Gardens (NT). There is something for everyone, whether it be a round of golf at St Mellion (8 miles), a visit to the restored Victorian mining village at Morwellham Quay (4 miles), a walk along the Tamar Valley footpath to look for otters and deer, a trip to the National Trust-owned Lydford Gorge, or a trip to the beach and charming harbour at Looe (25 miles). Why you take the picturesque Tamar Valley Railway into Plymouth for something truly unique, then spend the day exploring Plymouth Hoe or the amazing Marine Aquarium?

This property could be a little gold mine but it needs a complete refurbishment...we had to clean stuff off the wall, there is decking dumped at the back of the building, the bath is cracked and badly fitting front panel which could cause an injury and the draws in the bedrooms where unusable because you couldn't open the draws. There is still no information on how to work the heating or hot water, no contact number if there is a problem and no leaflets for people to browse. Unfortunately when we stayed the electric kept tripping out! By then we had been to reception and managed to get hold of Tom who was looking after the place, he did offer us another place but we had already unpacked and with 6 lots of luggage etc to move we stayed where we where so where offered a meal free of charge. The meal was superb and Tom was very helpful supplying the gate and cot for us, Sykes hadn't informed him of our request! All in all this place has potential, at the moment it's a bit like faulty towers, needs work and updating, information on how heating and water works, a full check of cutlery, plates etc and electrics the pat test on toaster are out of date by 3 months, and the fake grass is black with mould.

Sadly the previous guests had broken a couple of bed frames so guests had to sleep on a mattress on the floor. However Tom made sure we were comfortable and bought us a meal at the local pub, which was delicious. Thank you Tom for making our stay a lovely one. The Stockers.
