Portreath, with its protected harbour, was an important tin exporting port in the nineteenth century. Today, the village's natural and rugged shoreline draws people from around the globe. High cliffs, hidden coves, and sandy, surf-washed beaches characterise the area, while relics of its rich industrial past can be seen everywhere. Portreath has a small fishing harbour, stores, several pubs, three cafes, and a Chinese restaurant, and its safe, sheltered sand beach is a popular attraction. Visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum, and great restaurants, which is just 14 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach that leads down to Hayle and on to St. Ives for an enjoyable day trip.
