Guests say

Dolphin Watch in Carbis Bay boasts stunning views and a prime location with easy access to the beach and local attractions. Guests have praised the property for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. While some have noted issues with maintenance and customer service, the majority reflect on a delightful stay with special memories made. The proximity to the train station is frequently mentioned as a convenient feature.

Most guests found Dolphin Watch to be immaculately clean and well-kept, contributing to a welcoming and comfortable stay. However, a few reviews mentioned instances of overlooked cleaning details, such as windows and a dusty lounge, which slightly impacted the overall impression of cleanliness.

The location of Dolphin Watch is highly praised for its breathtaking views and proximity to Carbis Bay beach and the train station, making it convenient for guests to explore the area. The scenic surroundings and accessibility to St Ives and other attractions have been a highlight for many visitors.

Guests have generally found the apartment to be comfortable, with a good size and well-equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds and a homely feel contributed to a pleasant stay. However, some guests mentioned issues such as a lumpy bed and damp wardrobes, which suggests room for improvement in this category.

The facilities at Dolphin Watch are often described as great, with a well-equipped kitchen and thoughtful touches like binoculars for dolphin watching. Nonetheless, several reviews cited problems with appliances and maintenance issues, such as a broken dryer, toaster, and shower pressure, which indicates a need for better upkeep.

While some guests mentioned appreciating the 'goodies' in the fridge and the provision of items like buckets and spades for the beach, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts or special touches. Therefore, it is important to note that such amenities are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

The stunning views from the bay window of Dolphin Watch are a joy. This contemporary first-floor apartment is aptly named too, if you are lucky you may spot dolphins playing in the bay. However, the view alone is breath-taking, stretching across Carbis Bay beach to St Ives and out to Godrevy Lighthouse. Sleeping four in two well-presented bedrooms, it’s perfect for a family holiday or romantic beach retreat. A wall of windows showcases this amazing seascape in the open plan sitting and dining area. Sit down in the window seat or relax in one of the two large sofas and enjoy watching nature at play or enjoy the entertainment provided on a Smart TV with Freeview. The dining area is to the rear of the sitting area benefitting from its wonderful sea views. This delightful space is furnished with wooden floors, a large dining table, six matching chairs and a large serving hatch to the kitchen, allowing the cook to still join in the fun. The chef won’t miss out on the sea views either as a second opening from the kitchen to the sitting area reveals more ocean scenes. A well-appointed stylish kitchen to the rear has everything you need in your superb home from home. Both bedrooms are to the rear and separated from the rest of the living accommodation by glass sliding doors. This is a bonus if you or your children want an early night without being disturbed by others in the living room. The master bedroom has a beautifully dressed double bed, the second room is fitted with a single bed and a bunk bed. The second room is also large enough for the travel cot which is provided. The bathroom of Dolphin Watch is incredibly spacious with ceramic wall tiles and wood effect flooring. The beautiful communal gardens of Gwel Marten are available for guests to use and benefit from stunning views and access to the South West Coastal Path and Carbis Bay beach. The coastal path offers a dramatic scenic walk to the beautiful Cornish fishing village of St Ives or you can catch the scenic railway nearby. This visits St Ives and the surrounding area and is one of the most beautiful train journeys in the country. Dolphin Watch’s setting is truly magical and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with this beachside retreat and who knows you may spot some extra friends too.

Located just a short drive from St Ives, the beach community of Carbis Bay is renowned for its stunning stretch of sugar-white sand.

For an old-fashioned beach day, the beach has turquoise waves and sheltered circumstances that make it feel like you're in a subtropical location. Ocean Sports Centre is located on beach, so if sunbathing isn't your thing, why not rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard and get out on the ocean instead? For a truly luxurious experience, why not book yourself a day at the luxurious hotel, which overlooks the beach and has a lovely terrace from where you can sip cocktails in the Cornish sunshine? Small local businesses and eateries, such as Carbis Bay's fish & chip shop and railroad spur, are all found in this seaside town.

On arrival we were disappointed to find a half full glass of Coca Cola left on the window sill of the spare bedroom, coffee pods left in the machine, the lounge had not been dusted. That said the apartment is well equipped and comfortable.

We had only three minor points of feedback: 1. The shower water pressure was weak, and the pressure buttons did not seem to adjust the power. Although the shower was functional, it took longer than expected. 2. The WiFi signal was quite slow, running at about 10 Mbps at times. This occasionally caused lag when using the television and phone simultaneously due to low bandwidth. 3. There was some noise from the neighbors upstairs. While this isn't something you can control, it's worth noting that they were often loud, with frequent banging, even late at night, and constant stomping. However, these minor issues were insignificant compared to how pleased we were with everything else. The location is excellent—just a 2-minute walk to the train station. The apartment was well-equipped with all the essentials, including a television with Netflix and Prime Video. It was clean, cozy, and felt very homely. We would highly recommend this apartment for couples or families looking for a coastal getaway. There are many great places to explore nearby (St. Ives being an obvious choice), and it’s wonderful to have such a beautiful and comfortable place to return to. The beach is just a 10-minute (steep) walk downhill—a fun journey that certainly helped burn off the amazing local food. The beach itself is beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending a whole day there during the week. We will definitely recommend this apartment to friends and family and hope to visit again in the future.

We've holidayed many times with Sykes and never experienced anything like this before. Certainly not upto your high standards.
