Guests say

Chynance in Porthcurno is highly praised for its spaciousness, tasteful decoration, and prime location close to the beach and local attractions. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, the cleanliness, and the warm welcome from the hosts, who are noted for their helpfulness and knowledge of the area. The provision of a Cornish Cream Tea upon arrival is a delightful touch, though it's mentioned that some basics may need to be brought along. While most reviews are glowing, a few guests noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and up-to-date local amenities information.

The majority of guests found the apartment to be clean and well-presented. However, a couple of reviews mentioned the need for a deeper clean, particularly under and behind beds, and an unclean oven, which slightly lowers the overall cleanliness score.

The location is consistently lauded for its proximity to Porthcurno beach, the Minack Theatre, and other local coves and attractions. The ease of access to these sites contributes to a high location score.

Guests describe the property as spacious, bright, and comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and powerful showers. The presence of only one television was a minor drawback for one guest, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The apartment is praised for being well-equipped and having a range of facilities, including a BBQ and a well-stocked kitchen. However, the mention of outdated local amenities information and the need for new toilet seats slightly affects the facilities score.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident from the warm welcomes and the provision of a Cornish Cream Tea on arrival, which guests found delightful. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Chynance is just a short stroll from the spectacular, award-winning white sandy beaches of Porthcurno Bay, often described as a ‘coastal paradise’, with its dramatic granite cliffs overlooking a fabulous jade sea –a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A distinctive, elegant, and deceptively spacious Victorian first-floor apartment within an historic building, Chynance, Cornish for ‘House in the Valley’, once housed staff from the iconic Porthcurno Telegraph Station. It was from here, the (PK) Telegraph staff sent messages around the world, through undersea telegraph cables, a forerunner of the modern internet. Chynance has recently been lovingly restored in keeping with its original charm and heritage, making it an ideal base for a couple, family, or group of up to six looking for a relaxing beach holiday, theatre or walking break. From here you can explore the natural beauty, wildlife, and heritage of this exceptional part of Cornwall. On arrival, park your car without worry, in your own designated off-road parking space, that can accommodate 2-3 small cars. On walking up the drive, you will pass the charming, sunny, secluded, south west facing front garden, where you will find a patio, picnic table, benches, traditional seaside deckchairs and barbecue for alfresco dining. Head up to the first floor where you'll find a comfortable cosy ‘snug’, this leads to a large, light, attractively furnished living/dining room where you can relax on the settees and admire the rural view across the valley. Here you can enjoy your delicious traditional Cornish cream tea at the dining table, on arrival, before unwinding in front of the TV. The woodburning stove is perfect for fireside evenings during the colder winter months. In the attractive, well-equipped modern kitchen you'll find everything you need to create some delicious holiday meals, including a wine cooler to ensure your favourite bottles are always served chilled. There are three delightfully furnished, comfortable and relaxing bedrooms to choose from, including a king, a double and a twin, all served by a well-equipped bathroom with an overhead shower as well as a handy separate shower room. A washing machine and ironing table can be found in the small utility room to the rear of the apartment, making it easy to keep your holiday wardrobe looking its best. Just a short walk away is the world-famous open air Minack Theatre, which is carved into the clifftop with its sub-tropical gardens, offering stunning sea views across Porthcurno Bay. It provides an unmissable opportunity to catch a live performance from its wide-ranging programme of live theatre, musicals, music and entertainment against what must surely be one of the most dramatic theatrical backdrops in the world. Actors and producers involved in the theatre productions also frequently stay at Chynance and add to our star guest list! Visit Porthgwarra, Penberth, Sennen and Land’s End with their diverse selection of coastal attractions which are all easily accessible by foot or just a short drive or bus ride away. The Penwith peninsula offers some spectacular scenery that can be easily explored using the Cornish coastal path with remote beaches, quaint fishing villages, open moorland, dotted with old tin mines and inland ancient monuments, including early bronze age stone circles and settlements. Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole, Marazion, St Michael’s Mount and St Ives are also easily accessible by car or bus. Enjoy the beautiful harbours, cafes, pubs, restaurants, craft shops and art galleries including the Tate Modern (St Ives), the Newlyn Art Gallery and the Penlee House Gallery and Museum as well as Penzance’s beautiful open-air art deco Lido and geothermal pool. If you feel you need to venture further afield then a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat, plane or helicopter provides a wonderful day out. This beautiful apartment is the perfect choice for a holiday getaway, for families, couples, and friends to enjoy and explore this spectacular coastal location.

One of Britain's most remote villages, Sennen boasts a mile-long beach of pure white sand and is a popular vacation spot. The village has its own surf school, which overlooks a beach bar/restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows that take full advantage of the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. There are rumours that the Old Success Inn's covered well has a secret passage leading to it. Sennen was once a hotbed of smuggling activity. As a result of its long history, this charming village has retained much of its original charm, including its mediaeval church and fort as well as its few shops selling beachwear, souvenirs, and groceries.

Close enough to walk to Porthcurno beach, the Minack theatre and the bus stop. Pleasant, helpful owners who live below. Peaceful location.

The hosts could not have been more accommodating. It was wonderful to be able to walk down to the lovely Porthcurno beach.

On arrival had to wait around 10 minutes on the drive. Had no doorbell and also the owners live at the bottom of the apartment. The apartment needs a really deep clean all over. Cobwebs and dust all over. Especially under and behind the beds. Amazing shower. Need new toilet seats in both bathrooms. Otherwise my wife and my kids had amazing time.
