Guests say

Little Evanses is consistently praised for its cleanliness, idyllic location, and comfort. Guests are charmed by the wildlife, stunning views, and the warm welcome from hosts Terry and Karen. The well-equipped cottage and thoughtful touches contribute to a peaceful and relaxing stay, despite some minor navigational challenges to find the property.

Reviewers unanimously commend the property for its exceptional cleanliness, often describing it as the cleanest they've ever stayed in, which indicates a very high standard of hygiene and care.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, wildlife, and picturesque views. Some guests mention the challenge of navigating narrow lanes, but this does not detract significantly from the overall appreciation of the setting.

Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with several noting the cosy yet modern feel, and the relaxing atmosphere. The presence of wildlife and the views add to the comfort of the stay.

The property is well-appointed with modern conveniences and a well-equipped kitchen. The decking area and bird feeders are particularly appreciated. There is a single mention of a desire for a thermostat valve on a radiator, but overall, the facilities are highly regarded.

Many reviews mention the thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, such as a welcome package with wine and chocolates, bird feeders, and a pot of food for feeding hens. While these gestures are warmly received, it is politely noted that such gifts are subject to the hosts' discretion and may not be guaranteed.

About this property

This detached timber-clad cottage is located on the owners' ten acre smallholding on a hill in Dalwood. Converted from a barn, it is comfortable accommodation for families or adults. The kitchen is smartly fitted in beech and stainless steel, and comes with a dining area for enjoying meals. The sitting room is light and airy with huge glass doors and a magnificent view over the surrounding hills. You can choose from a handy family bedroom downstairs or the pretty double which you will find in the eaves up the steep narrow stairs, together with its en suite bathroom with central romantic slipper bath. The garden is a peaceful place to relax, with lawn, furniture and a barbecue for alfresco meals. Wander down the easy footpath through fields into the village to browse in the village shop or eat at the good pub. This is a conservation area with lots of footpaths, so it’s great walking country in the Blackdown Hills or along the coast around Lyme Regis, Seaton, Beer or Sidmouth. With golf, riding and fishing nearby, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activity. Axminster and Honiton are both interesting towns to explore, Little Evanses is a splendid base for simply enjoying the views or touring Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

The lovely market town of Axminster has been made famous by the well-known organic shop and canteen in the area, which were introduced by TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Nestled in outstanding peaceful countryside, Axminster is certainly a place to relax and unwind.

Excellent outside decked area and surrounding gardens, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Lovely owners who respect your privacy but are there if you need anything. Had a lovely stay, thank you.

It was spotlessly clean and comfortable and very well equipped. The outside area is very peaceful with lovely views. The bird feeders attract many different birds and it becomes addictive watching them. We also saw deer, one of which was right outside the house. Karen and Terry are lovely hosts. Definitely a 10/10 property.

The house and setting are amazing with lovely views across the countryside, really enjoyed watching all the wild birds feeding from the kitchen window. Lovely touch with the welcome package of wine and chocolates which went down well. Thank you.
