Guests say

The Apple Barn in Devon receives high praise for its superb setting, cleanliness, and comfort. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, the property's peaceful location, and the helpfulness of the hosts. While some minor issues are mentioned, such as towel quantity and water problems, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests planning to return.

Reviews consistently mention the property being clean and tidy upon arrival, indicating high standards of cleanliness. One isolated complaint about water issues does not significantly impact the overall excellent feedback.

The location is celebrated for its peaceful setting and proximity to local attractions and coastal visits. Some guests found it a bit hard to find, and access via narrow lanes was noted, but the stunning views and tranquility are highly valued.

Guests find The Apple Barn extremely comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and sofas. The spacious accommodation and the provision of fans during a heatwave contribute to the high comfort score.

The property is praised for being well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and for having good WiFi. Some guests suggested improvements such as more towels and an outside dog wash area, leading to a slightly reduced score.

While guests mention a welcome pack and the hosts' helpfulness, there are no specific references to gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the provided reviews.

About this property

With far reaching views that span across fields and countryside of the Axe Valley, Apple Barn is beautiful barn conversion situated within the owner's 17th century, grade II listed farmstead. Bordering Devon, Dorset and Somerset with Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast just 5 miles away, this is a perfect base for exploring. Step up to the decking and through patio doors into the beautiful open plan living room, with solid oak floors and an elegant sweeping open tread staircase. The room is divided into a comfortable relaxing space with two sofas arranged around a wood burning stove (Starter pack only for fire provided), a dining space centrally positioned with a country kitchen at the far end, equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. A step leads down to a spacious, ground floor king-size bedroom with large patio doors, a TV and en-suite shower room. On the first floor there are two beautifully dressed en-suite bedrooms, a zip link, twin room that can be joined together as a super-king bed and a double room. Outside, a large decked patio looks out across the Axe Valley and is equipped with tables and chairs. There is a charcoal BBQ available (charcoal not provided) and plenty of parking. A dog is welcome and there are plenty of countryside walks right on the doorstep, however your pet must be kept under control at all times due to livestock. The town of Axminster is just 2 miles away, which hosts a weekly market and offers a number of supermarkets and the popular River Cottage Canteen. River Cottage HQ is just outside the town. For days at the beach Lyme Regis and Charmouth offer a fine variety of good restaurants, pubs and shops and an opportunity to enjoy the magnificent coastal scenery from the South West Coastal Path. Challenge yourself for a walk to the top of the famous Golden Cap, Dorset's heights point. For little ones, the Axe Valley Nature Reserve can be found just outside of Axminster, and the famous Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth is a must visit for any age. Apple Barn is your Jurassic Coast rural getaway at any time of year.

Nestled in countryside, Axminster is certainly a place to relax and unwind, it is one of Devon’s smaller towns. Situated on the River Axe and within easy reach of both the West Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coast, Axminster has many attractions, including plenty of privately owned shops, a weekly market and old inns, with one dating back 100 years and the famous River Cottage Canteen and HQ. It was well appointed with everything we needed and the decking outside was perfect for relaxing. The car parking was well sorted with plenty of space to safely park our car. The owners, Katherine and John were very pleasant and approachable and of course their lovely dog Fizz was nice and friendly.

The Apple Barn was well equipped and had far more than what was stated in the information from Sykes. We found Sykes information quite off putting to be honest. The check in time was 5pm, which we found was far too late especially if you were arriving in winter time and had to find the Barn. Check out time was stated as 9 but the information received in Apple Barn was 10 am, which is far better. Again we found 9am would have been too early. Katherine was there to welcome us when we arrived. Beds were comfy and Apple Barn was very warm and we did not need to use the wood burner.

Beautiful clean and perfectly positioned cottage to enable visiting of the surrounding areas with spectacular views whilst eating your breakfast. The hosts could not do enough to make our stay memorable. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.
