11 The Green is a charming and well-equipped cottage in Otterton, appreciated for its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and excellent location for nature enthusiasts and walkers. Guests have enjoyed the thoughtful touches, local amenities, and the property's character, despite some maintenance issues and occasional discomfort with furnishings.

The cottage consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, with guests describing it as 'exceptionally clean' and 'utterly charming'. No negative comments about cleanliness were noted.

The location is highly regarded for its proximity to nature, walks, and local amenities like the pub and community shop. However, some guests noted heavy traffic noise and parking difficulties, slightly affecting the score.

Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, though some have mentioned issues with the sofa and armchair comfort, and noise from local wildlife. The mixed feedback on comfort leads to a slightly reduced score.

While the cottage is well-equipped and guests appreciate the facilities, there have been several mentions of maintenance issues such as problems with the boiler, washing machine, and lighting. These recurring issues impact the score.

Many guests have mentioned thoughtful gestures such as welcome treats and a well-stocked information folder. However, as these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, the score reflects the positive feedback while acknowledging the variability.

About this property

This partly thatched, Grade II listed cottage is located in a pretty terrace beside the village green in Otterton. With charming original old features and modern style, this is excellent accommodation for small families or couples. From the street, open your front door into the spacious kitchen with traditional range as a feature. Snuggle up beside the log burner in the comfy living room, which has glass doors through to a sunny dining room. Both these rooms can open to the garden on a sunny day. Head up the stairs to a delightful romantic double bedroom with a four poster bed, and a twin which has the handy option of converting to a big double bed. The south facing garden is enclosed, with a seating area and steps leading you up to terraced lawns where the elevated position gives you peaceful views over the church and village. The village is a typically pretty, tranquil Devon one where you will be welcomed at the pub and shop. Otterton Mill is a fascinating place to visit, with its working mill, restaurant, bakery, shop and occasional events. Explore the nature reserve on the banks of the River Otter and you may spot a wide variety of birds or if you are lucky, wild beavers who have been reintroduced. Head down to the Jurassic Coast at Ladram Bay's pebble beach, or the elegant seaside town of Sidmouth. For city attractions, Exeter has everything you could wish for. 11 The Green is a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful and peaceful region.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard.

It’s a great place for walking and enjoying the local countryside. The mill with its shop are on your doorstep and the pub is just a few yards down the road. We hope to be back soon

Otterton itself is a delightful village with the River Otter next door. We enjoyed our stay but our rating above was lower than that commensurate with the rent pricing for a two week stay The cottage is quite small with low ceilings, which are part of its charm. The back bedroom is quite cramped with minimal storage. The conservatory is a really good space for meals and a veritable sunshine trap. There were quite a few issues that affected our stay which can be remedied with a little investment. LIGHTING The LED lights in the kitchen were inadequate and cooking was done in the gloom. Upgrading lights and including undercupboard/over cooker lighting would be a BIG help. I would suggest just investing longer term in inbuilt kitchen ceiling lights to illuminate properly. The front bedroom was gloomy too and would benefit from an upgrade. Also front door entrance light would benefit from being wired in and not battery dependent. WASHING MACHINE On arrival one cycle option was faulty as was the drier. Over the stay the available cycles reduced and I think we were only left with one. As the washer/drier had been fault for a while this should have been replaced earlier and was an inconvenience as we had brought fewer clothes expecting to wash these during the stay. CONSERVATORY BACK DOOR The lock was broken on arrival but Jerry sorted this out quickly - many thanks Jerry. LITTLE OCCASIONAL TABLES The three occasional tables were fragile and rickety - it would be better to have some tables that were more robust and suited to the job of supporting cups and teapots. We probably would stay agin but only if the cottage received the modest investment it deserves.

Great pub with friendly locals. Furnishings not to our taste but well equipped kitchen. Garden needed some attention. But overall a good weeks holiday.
