Guests say

Great Bidlake Manor is consistently praised for its stunning setting, spacious and well-appointed rooms, and the warm welcome provided by the housekeeper. Guests enjoyed the property's tranquillity, ample amenities, and the thoughtful touches such as the provision of logs for fires. The manor's charm and comfort made for memorable stays, with many expressing a desire to return.

Guests frequently commend the property for its spotless condition, with several reviews highlighting the high standard of cleanliness throughout the manor. The attention to detail in maintaining a clean environment contributed positively to the overall experience.

The property's location in Devon is appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to local amenities. While the reviews do not provide extensive detail on the location, the positive mentions of the setting and the ability to explore Devon and Cornwall suggest a high level of satisfaction.

Comfort is a standout feature in the reviews, with guests praising the large, comfy bedrooms, en suites with plenty of hot water, and the overall cosy atmosphere of the manor. The provision of comfortable furniture and beds was noted as contributing to a relaxing stay.

The manor is well-equipped with a games room, music room, and ample entertainment options. Some minor suggestions for improvement were made, such as the addition of a coffee machine and better kitchen scissors. Issues with bees and flies were mentioned, but these seem to be isolated incidents rather than ongoing problems.

The reviews reflect a high level of thoughtfulness in the hospitality, with mentions of a warm welcome, including a chocolate cake and bubbly on arrival. It should be noted that while such gestures are greatly appreciated by guests, they are a courtesy and may not be a standard offering for every stay.

About this property

This stunning manor house is located in lovely countryside a mile from the village of Bridestowe on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. With amazing history dating from the 13th century, it is a very special and unique, Grade II* listed destination for families and big groups of friends to gather. From the moment you step into the grand dining hall with its vast fireplace and coat of arms, you will be absorbed into the magical atmosphere of this house with its big rooms and multi-room Sonos system. A library, sitting room and TV room are all lovely places to sit peacefully, or have fun in the music room complete with instruments. The breakfast room with wood burning stove off the well equipped kitchen is perfect for less formal dining. You can arrange for caterers to cook for you if you wish. Two flights of stairs lead you up to five fantastic en suite bedrooms, all with fine Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy bathrobes provided, and a games room plus handy simple kitchen area. In fairytale style in the Tower is a sixth en suite bedroom. The grounds are as lovely as the house, with over 13 acres where you can be lord of the manor and enjoy gardens, woods, ponds and paddocks with wonderful views over the moors. Play croquet, eat alfresco in the lit barbecue area with chimenea, gaze at the scenery or run free and play games and hide and seek in the open spaces. There is beautiful moorland to walk and explore beyond the manor, with opportunities to walk and cycle, and with a pub in Bridestowe village and lively towns at Tavistock and Okehampton there are plenty of eateries and shops to browse. National Trust Lydford Gorge is a stunning place to visit. Great Bidlake is a fantastic place to make happy memories with friends and family.

Nestling among mature woodland on the western slopes of Dartmoor, the historic village of Lydford is a jewel in this area of outstanding scenic beauty. To the north, just half a mile away, the high tors come right down to the village edge, while to the south the River Lyd winds its way through Lydford Forest on its tumbling course northwards.

Everything you need for an indoor winter or outdoor summer break. Comfortable beds, lovely pillows & linen. Tasteful throughout. Plenty of information on the app about the property, facilities and local amenities. A group of 12 of went to celebrate a big birthday and we used a recommended caterer ( on the app) to have a dinner party on the Saturday night. My only suggestion would be to allow a slightly earlier check in and later check out as 4.30 and 9.30 respectively do not give much time! We did request a later check out as no guests were arriving, however it wasn’t possible.

There is nothing but praise for the the house, so much living accommodation and bedrooms with en suites. It was clean and tidy we had a great week with the family. It is highly recommended and more than great value for the money.

Beautiful home and grounds with every comfort you could possibly need. Stunning views and fabulous facilities- from the games room for the kids through to the [piping hot and powerful shower in every en-suite, everything is catered for. The house management is approachable, friendly and very quick to answer any questions or fix any issues (we had an internet outage during the stay). Perfect for exploring the coast, Dartmouth National Park, gorgeous villages and towns. We hiked, swam, shopped and of course ate and drank to our heart's content!
